Yashahime Season 2 Gets Release Date, New Theme Song

The second season of the Inuyasha sequel series Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon is officially slated to arrive this October, and will feature a brand-new opening theme.

Per Yashahime's official Japanese Twitter account (and a handy translation by Anime Intelligence and Research), Yashahime: Princess-Half-Demon - The Second Act is scheduled to premiere on Japanese television on Saturday, Oct. 2. Additionally, Yashahime's official English Twitter confirmed that, like Season 1, The Second Act will also premiere on Funimation, Crunchyroll and Hulu. Furthermore, the three-piece J-pop group NEWS has been enlisted to record the new season's opening theme.

A follow-up to the fan-favorite manga/anime Inuyasha, Yashahime follows Towa and Setsuna -- the twin daughters of Sesshomaru and Rin -- who were separated at a young age, with Towa ending up stuck in the modern era, where she was raised by Sota Higurashi. 10 years later, Towa is reunited with Setsuna, who has since become a demon slayer. The sisters join forces with their cousin Moroha, daughter of Inuyasha and Kagome Higurashi, in order to unlock the secrets of their past.

Yashahime's first season premiered on TV in Japan on Oct. 3, 2020, running for 24 episodes and concluding on March 20 of this year, with a second season being confirmed shortly thereafter. Meanwhile, Viz Media streamed the anime to western viewers via Funimation, Crunchyroll and Hulu. Funimation also produced an English dub, which it began streaming alongside Crunchyroll and Hulu on Nov. 6, 2020. The dub recently made its way to network TV in the States, premiering on Cartoon Network/Adult Swim's Toonami block on the evening of Saturday, June 26.

Yashahime: Princess-Half-Demon - The Second Act premieres on Oct. 2.
