One-Punch Man: How to Get Started With the Anime & Manga

One-Punch Man has risen as the definitive shonen parody series in recent years, taking its satire of action series genre to such heights that it's almost a sincere entry into the genre. Much like its isekai parody cousin Konosuba, One-Punch Man has evolved from simple satire to a true series with its own identity and world.

The premise is simple enough: a hero named Saitama has such strength that he can defeat any foe with a single punch...and he finds that totally anticlimactic. Saitama, "the caped baldy," is too strong for his own good, but the villains keep coming, and so One-Punch Man continues to save the day.

Reading the One-Punch Man Manga

Many One-Punch Man fans believe the manga is the best way to enjoy the series, and it's easy to see why. The One-Punch Man manga goes much further into the story than the anime, with 21 volumes currently under its belt, and the art is the biggest draw. This series began as a webcomic drawn by series creator ONE, but for serialization, artist Yusuke Murata stepped in to provide the art, with razor-sharp attention to detail. The result is that One-Punch Man's visuals are some of manga's strongest.

Barnes & Noble stocks all current One-Punch Man print volumes, with digital versions available on NOOK book, so readers can check it out on their desktop, mobile, tablet and more. Amazon also stocks all current One-Punch Man volumes, both in paperback and as digital Kindle volumes via comiXology. Amazon even conveniently offers sets of five or ten volumes at once. There's also Rightstufanime, which stocks all current print volumes of One-Punch Man. Those who prefer to read digitally can do so on VIZ's site, which also links to other retailers stocking One-Punch Man manga, or the Shonen Jump App (after subscribing for $2.99 a month), where chapters release in English at the same time they're released in Japan.
