Viz Media, Dim Mak Reunite for More Naruto Apparel

The Dim Mak Collection, famous EDM artist Steve Aoki's fashion brainchild, is collaborating with VIZ Media once again for a brand-new line of apparel centered on Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto.

Based predominantly around the second half of the series' anime, Naruto: Shippuden, which details the story of the titular ninja after a two year time skip, Aoki's line puts iconic characters from the franchise on various shirts, sweaters, and jackets.

The collaboration features a number of the most popular ninja from the land of Konoha and beyond. Fan favorites such as Gaara, Jiraiya, Kakashi, and Itachi are all present, sporting their designs from the Shippuden era. The main stars of the show, Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, all get their own apparel, as well, with Naruto and Sasuke sharing the spotlight on a number of the items.

The line has twelve apparel styles in a variety of colors, including tie dyes, with each piece depicting characters in a variety of exciting action poses or dramatic moments with art that harkens back to the anime itself. Not every piece of clothing compares to the intensity of certain apparel in the line, such as Team 7 unleashing their signature techniques, however. A couple of them have Naruto in a chibi art style, standing side to side with his rival Sasuke or holding onto a bowl of ramen, his iconic favorite food.

The Dim Mak Collection, started in 2014, is an offshoot of Dim Mak Records, which Aoki founded in 1996. Meaning "Touch of Death" in Chinese, the recording label has fashioned "by any means necessary" as their slogan, something Aoki compares favorably to the Will of Fire, a concept brought up many times in Naruto.

Aoki has said, "As an Asian-American kid growing up in the USA, there were not many people who looked like me - I felt different. Eventually, music allowed me to find my community and build my tribe." He went on to explain that his founding of Dim Mak Records was "a means to foster this chosen family and to project a message to the world that through grit and resilience, anything is achievable by any means necessary"

In September 2020, the Dim Mak Collection previously worked together with VIZ Media to make Naruto apparel. The line is currently still available on the Dim Mak Collection's official website. The Dim Mak X Naruto Drop 2 will be released exclusively as a limited edition line starting on April 3rd, 2021.
