Pokémon’s 25th Anniversary Involves Merch, Celebrations & Katy Perry

Pokémon is planning to celebrate its 25th anniversary in style.

The Pokémon Company is launching a series of events, beginning with the P25 Music program. P25 Music is a collaboration between Pokémon Company International and the Universal Music Group (UMG), which features some of the biggest names in music, with pop star Katy Perry as a premier collaborator. P25 music will last throughout the entirety of 2021.

"Pokémon has been a constant in my life from playing the original video games on my Game Boy, to trading Pokémon TCG cards at lunch, to the adventures of catching Pokémon on the street with Pokémon GO," Perry said in a statement. "I’ve even visited the Pokémon Café in Japan while on tour! It is an honor to be chosen to help celebrate a franchise that has given me so much joy in the last 25 years, and to be able to watch it evolve in the ways it’s provided that kind of electric joy for the kids in my life and around the world."

The Pokémon Company International has also launched an official website for 25 Years of Adventures: A Journey Through the Pokémon World, which explores the various regions of the Pokémon universe. In addition, several brands and companies will feature unique Pokémon-themed promotions and merchandise, including the Build-A-Bear Workshop and McDonald’s restaurants.

Finally, the Pokémon Trading Card Game will feature starter packs for different regions, as well as oversized cards featuring Pikachu and other fan-favorite Pokémon. A limited-edition 25th anniversary-themed skateboard designed by industry craftsman Bear Walker will be available for pre-order at the Pokémon center starting Jan. 19.
