Pacific Rim: The Black Welcomes You to the Anime’s Roster of Jaeger Pilots

The latest promo for Pacific Rim: The Black places viewers in the role of a Jaeger pilot.

The promo, released via Netflix's @NXOnNetflix account, walks viewers through the training of a member of the Pan Pacific Defense Corps, which includes drifting and combat with Kaiju. Snippets of clips from Pacific Rim: The Black are shown, as the artificial intelligence Loa describes the Pan Pacific Defense Corps's Jaeger pilots as "the light against the infinite dark" and the "tip of the spear." Finally, the promo ends with a shot of the smoking wreckage of what used to be Sydney, Australia.

Pacific Rim: The Black focuses on siblings Taylor and Hayley, who have been living in the ruins of Australia when it was overrun by Kaiju. The two find an abandoned Jaeger and learn to pilot it to combat the monsters that have overridden their home. The series is the first in a line of anime projects developed by Legendary Television Studios and Netflix, with upcoming series based on Kong: Skull Island and Tomb Raider in the works. Netflix previously released the first official trailer and posters for Pacific Rim: The Black at the beginning of February.

There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.

Co-created by Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson and produced by Legendary Television and Polygon Pictures, Pacific Rim: The Black premieres March 4 on Netflix.
