MHA Artist Shares Menacing New Dabi Portrait

My Hero Academia artist Yoko Akiyama shared new art of the fiery villain Dabi.

SPOILERS FOR MY HERO ACADEMIA FOLLOW:

The artist shared the imposing new portrait of the pyro-kinetic villain on their personal Twitter account. Dabi has long been one of the super hero manga's most popular bad guys, but he has been an especially hot topic lately as the manga sets up the long-awaited showdown between the villain and his estranged brother, the fire and ice wielding hero Shoto Todoroki. Akiyama portrayed the character as he's appeared throughout most of the series, but recent chapters of the manga have seen the villain taking on an even more scarred appearance as he pushes his fire powers to the limits.

Akiyama is one of Kohei Horikoshi's assistants. In addition to helping to produce the main manga, they are also the author behind the spin-off series My Hero Academia: Team Up Missions and the creator of the original seires Saguri-san Tankentai.

My Hero Academia is currently in its final arc, which sees the students of the UA High School and the professional heroes of the world finally confronting All for One/Shigaraki and his League of Villains in a destructive final battle. The series has already wrapped up a number of long-running plot threads, including the reveal of the traitor within UA High, and is rapidly barreling towards the final confrontation between All for One and the current holder of One for All, Izuku "Deku" Midoriya, that it has been setting almost a decade.

The series' end has been teased by both Horikoshi and Shonen Jump publisher Shueisha for some time now, and while no definitive end date has been announced yet, Horikoshi stated at the most recent Jump Festa convention in Dec. 2021 that he plans to conclude the super hero manga sometime before the end of 2022. The manga was first published in 2014, and has achieved a global circulation of over 65 million copies.

While the manga may soon reach its end, fans can still look forward to more of the anime, which still has plenty of content left to adapt. A sixth season of the popular shonen series will premiere next fall, and will be focused around the eventful Paranormal Liberation War arc, which shows the first full-scale confrontation between Japan's pro-heroes and the united villains of the Paranormal Liberation Army.

The My Hero Academia manga is available in English from VIZ Media. The anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll, Netflix and Hulu.
