Mayans M.C. Season 4 Gives the Series a Big Time Jump

WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Mayans M.C. Season 4, Episode 2, "Hymn Among the Ruins," available now on FX.

After resolving the battle between the Santo Padre club and the other Mayans charters in the premiere, Mayans M.C. Season 4, Episode 2, "Hymn Among the Ruins," jumps the show ahead four months.

There are a number of major changes following the time jumps. Firstly, Marcus Alvarez is once again at the head of the Mayans M.C. as a club after having turned against Miguel Galindo in the Mayans M.C. Season 3 finale. Galindo, for his part, remains missing, while his wife, Emily, is working in a restaurant and living in a rundown apartment. Coco, for his part, is living with Hope and has seemingly stopped using drugs. The Reyes family remains at least a little dysfunctional, as EZ has iced out his father, Felipe, following his breakup with Gaby. Still, Nails' pregnancy is progressing nicely, even if Angel remains somewhat fixed on his child with Adelita.

On the whole, though, the Santo Padre club has not yet healed from its war with the other Mayans. Canche, the Yuma Mayans President, now controls the drug trade, and the Santo Padre clubhouse is still badly damaged from the fight. There are also a number of Mayans from other clubs hanging out in Santo Padre to keep an eye on things. The Santo Padre Mayans are also not being trusted with any real jobs, which has them on edge and frustrated.

Co-created by Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans M.C. primarily takes place in Santo Padre, California, which is on the border with Mexico. The show follows the Mayans M.C. motorcycle club in that area and is a spinoff of Sons of Anarchy. A number of characters from Sons of Anarchy have played roles in Mayans M.C. over the years, including Happy Lowman and Alvarez, who originated on that show.

A teaser trailer for Mayans M.C. Season 4 revealed the titular club will find itself at war with the Sons of Anarchy. While the war hasn't started by the end of the two-part premiere, the final moments of "Hymn Among the Ruins" do set up the San Bernardino Sons of Anarchy looking to get revenge on the Mayans.

The third episode of Mayans M.C. Season 4, "Self Portrait in Blue Bathroom," releases April 26 on FX.
