Mamoru Hosoda’s Belle Film Reveals Trailer and Character Art | Anime News | Tokyo Otaku Mode (TOM) Shop: Figures & Merch From Japan

Belle, a new anime film by renowned director Mamoru Hosoda ( Summer Wars, Mirai ), has released a new trailer showcasing the titular character's singing voice.

Art by character designer Jin Kim, known for his work on Disney's Frozen, has also been revealed.

London-based architect and designer Eric Wong contributed concept art for the online world of U. Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart of Irish animation studio Cartoon Saloon are also involved in the film.

Belle follows a 17-year-old high school girl named Suzu, who lives in rural Kochi with her father. Despite her love of singing, she has remained silent since her mother's death. Nevertheless, she is unable to escape the feeling that music is her life’s calling and adopts the name Belle upon joining an online community called "U." After her singing makes her a worldwide sensation, she finds herself confronted by a mysterious dragon-shaped creature.

Belle opens in Japan in July 2021.
