Jensen Ackles Just Quietly Revealed He’s Working On a New Batman Project

The Boys Season 3 star Jensen Ackles gives fans some quiet confirmation regarding his involvement in an unannounced Batman project.

During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Ackles discussed his long career as a voice actor for various animated DC Comics adaptations. When Meyers brings up Ackles' prior work voicing Red Hood, the actor responded, "Yep. In fact, I just spent about three and a half hours in the studio yesterday doing, uh, doing Batman." He added, "That was a big deal. I don't want to drop that ball."

Ackles, whose career first took off with the role of Eric Brady in Days of Our Lives, has become a fixture unto himself in pop culture over the past two decades. Apart from co-starring in 15 seasons of Supernatural as monster hunter Dean Winchester, Ackles voiced Jason Todd aka Red Hood, in 2010's animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood. He also voiced Bruce Wayne aka the Dark Knight himself, for both parts of 2021's Batman: The Long Halloween. The actor previously confirmed his return to the DC Universe during a conversation with Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum, saying, "Well, there is... there is a DC property that I'm currently developing right now with Warner Bros. and some other good partners that I've got my fingers crossed for. But again, I'm not gonna talk about it, 'cause you don't wanna jinx it."

Ackles is currently starring as Soldier Boy in the third season of Amazon Prime's The Boys. Based on the 2006 comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, The Boys follows the exploits of the series' eponymous team of antiheroes as they attempt to disrupt the machinations of their world's caped crusaders as well as their malevolent corporate benefactors. Ackles' Soldier Boy acts as both The Boys' stand-in for Captain America and a new rival for series antagonist Homelander, portrayed by Antony Starr.

While fans of the series have been eagerly anticipating the debut of Ackles's Soldier Boy, their hopes were momentarily dashed when the character's premiere episode was delayed due to a technical glitch on June 9. The Boys official Twitter page made a post the next day announcing that the error had been fixed, and telling fans, "Thanks for waitin', know ya been hitting that refresh button like mad. But got a bit of good news: #TheHuntForSoldierBoy is on."

New episodes of The Boys premiere every Friday on Prime Video.

UPDATE: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated that Ackles' voice work was for a Berlanti Productions project. CBR regrets the error.
