Funimation to Stream Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train

The smash-hit Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train will soon be available for streaming via Funimation.

Funimation announced that Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train will join its streaming service beginning on June 22. Mugen Train, the first theatrical feature in the popular Demon Slayer franchise, is one of the most successful anime films in history and has set multiple sales records worldwide. Released in Japan in 2020, Mugen Train became the highest-grossing film of all time in the country, pulling in over 40 billion yen and shattering the record that was previously held by Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away. The movie was released to theaters in the United States and Canada in April, where it received the largest opening week sales of any foreign-language movie in North America ever, earning over $19 million USD in its opening weekend, despite being given a R-rating from the MPAA. Mugen Train currently holds a 97% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and was the highest grossing film worldwide in 2020.

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train is based on the seventh arc of the popular Shonen Jump manga series, and sees the series' cast of demon slayers, including protagonist Tanjiro and his little sister Nezuko, boarding a mysterious train in pursuit of a demon. The passengers of the train are soon lulled into a deep sleep by Enmu, a powerful demon with the ability to manipulate dreams, who serves as the antagonist of the movie. Tanjiro and company must figure out a way to escape from Enmu's dreams, stop the train and confront one of the most powerful foes they have ever met.

The movie was produced by animation studio Ufotable, which, in addition to also producing the Demon Slayer anime series, is also known for its work on the Fate/stay Night franchise, as well as frequently collaborating with video game publisher Bandai Namco on games such as Code Vein, God Eater, and the upcoming Tales of Arise. Music for the movie was provided by Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle's Yuki Kajiura and composer Go Shiina, who also worked on Namco's Tales series.

The first season of the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba anime series is available for streaming on Funimation, Crunchyroll, Hulu and Netflix. A second season of the show has been announced and is scheduled to be released sometime before the end of 2021.
