Death Note Creators’ Platinum End Anime Expands Its Cast

The recently concluded manga series Platinum End by Death Note creators Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata is getting an anime adaptation this year.

The official website for the series revealed that the characters Saki Hanakago, and her guardian angel Revel, will be voiced by M.A.O and Natsuki Hanae, respectively. Similar to their previous work on Death Note -- which centered on a Japanese student named Light Yagami acquiring the powers of a shinigami (god of death) -- Ohba and Obata's Platinum End is about a student named Mirai Kakehashi who temporarily acquires the powers of God by his guardian angel Nasse following a suicide attempt. Unlike Death Note protagonist Light Yagami, who came from a stable family, Mirai Kakehashi was raised by an abusive uncle and aunt following the tragic death of his parents in a car crash.

Unbeknownst to Mirai, however, he was entered into a contest with 12 other God Candidates by his guardian angel to take over the role of God following the latter's retirement in 999 days. Amongst the other candidates is Mirai's classmate and love interest, Saki Hanakago, who was also unwittingly entered into the contest by her guardian angel, Revel, when she attempted to end her own life as well. The antagonist of the series is Kanade Uryu, who is the God Candidate seeking the role of God by any means necessary, including killing the other 12 candidates.

Mirai's guardian angel Nasse is set to be voiced by Yui Ogura, whose credits include Alice in Heaven's Memo Pad, Yaya Fushiguro in Yuuna and the Haunted Hot Springs, and Kokona Aoba in Encouragement of Climb. Saki's voice actress, M.A.O (aka Mao Ichimichi), is better known for her live-action work in the super-sentai series Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger where she played Luka Millfy/Gokai Yellow. The voice of Revel, Natsuki Hanae, is better known for his role as Tanjiro Kamado in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Ken Kaneki in Tokyo Ghoul, and Kosei Arima in Your Lie in April.
