Dark Crisis Gives a Major Role to a Hero Crisis on Infinite Earths Introduced

A major DC character first introduced in Crisis of Infinite Earths will have a significant role to play in Dark Crisis.

Dark Crisis writer Joshua Williamson told CBR in an exclusive interview that some key DC characters will take the spotlight in the massive crossover event following the death of the Justice League. "I really like Dr. Light and Frankenstein," he said. "Obviously, I like Damian Wayne a lot because of my history with that character, and I like getting to write him in this context. Booster Gold and Blue Beetle are cool. I like all these characters, and that's a part of why they're here."

He continued, "Every character you see in Dark Crisis #1 plays an important role throughout the series. There are no throw-away characters. Dr. Light has some especially big moments. It is called Dark Crisis, after all." Williamson also said that Blue Beetle and Booster Gold will have a "couple of great moments, especially later on in the series."

Created by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez, Doctor Light/Kimiyo Hoshi played a major role in the 1985 Crisis on Infinite Earths event. Originally an astronomer studying the antimatter cloud destroying the DC Universe, Kimiyo was selected by the Monitor to become Doctor Light and protect the planet from the incoming Anti-Monitor. After a brief skirmish with Starfire and Halo, she traveled to the Antimatter Universe to face the Anti-Monitor with a number of other heroes, where she saved Superman's life. During the final confrontation with the Anti-Monitor near the end of the event, Doctor Light absorbed the power of a star and used it to help fight against the villain.

Dark Crisis is set after the events of Justice League #75, which saw Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and others die at the hands of Pariah and the Dark Army. Following the already released Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition and May 31's Justice League: Road to Dark Crisis #1, Dark Crisis #1 releases June 7. The synopsis for the issue reads, "Crisis on Infinite Earths. Infinite Crisis. Final Crisis. And now...Dark Crisis! The epic event years in the making is finally here! Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and the rest of the Justice League are dead. The remaining heroes are left to protect the world from an onslaught of violent attacks by DC’s greatest villains! Can the legacy heroes step out of the shadows of the classic heroes to form a new Justice League? And will that be enough to stop a darkness greater than anything they’ve ever faced from destroying everything? Don’t miss out on the first issue of the blockbuster event of the summer!"

Dark Crisis will continue to release throughout the year, with there being seven issues in total. DC will also release a number of tie-in issues and Dark Crisis: Worlds Without a Justice League one-shots during the crossover event.
