Boruto: Shikamaru Resurrected a Sinister Enemy as Konoha’s Ultimate Weapon

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Chapter 68, “Scar,” by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

One of the primary questions fans had about the Boruto series was if it would be able to live up to the hype of its predecessor Naruto. It was clear there'd be badass heroes, as is usually the case with Konoha, but there was some skepticism if enemies could be crafted in an intimidating light akin to the Akatsuki, Madara Uchiha and Kaguya. Thankfully, that was the case with Isshiki Ōtsutsuki leading the Kara terrorists to take over the world in this new era.

It created bombastic fights while also unleashing Kawaki on the Hidden Leaf. Thankfully, the teenage weapon would join the Hokage's son and turn the tables on the alien and his cult, but now they have Code to deal with. Now in Boruto Chapter 68, when Code attacked, Shikamaru shocked fans by resurrecting one of their sinister opponents as the village's ultimate weapon.

It occurred when Code used his Claw Mark on Shikamaru's neck to appear in the science lab. He came for Amado, hoping to force the Kara defector to remove his limiter bands. This would make Code more powerful than the deceased Isshiki, and maybe even more than a Momoshiki-possessed Boruto. He also wanted to level up now that Kawaki had a new Karma and Isshiki's immense power too, and as Code smacked Shikamaru away, it seemed like he'd achieve his goal.

However, Shikamaru was aware of the mark and turned it into a trap. He activated the Bronco protocol, which summoned a reprogrammed Delta bot into action. This killer cyborg caused a lot of havoc when she broke into Konoha earlier in Boruto, attacking Naruto and the boys. It took a lot out of the Hokage, who resorted to a giant Rasengan to end her. However, while it seemed like Amado destroyed all her spare bodies when he came to Konoha, it turns out one was kept to become a trump card in situations like this.

Amado, Katasuke and Shikamaru worked to improve the former Isshiki assassin, motivating her to pummel Code. It's ironic because as she kept her personality, she taunted Code about being better than him, nodding to their rivalry under Isshiki.

This does leave Boruto fans wondering what other bots Amado reprogrammed -- and if there's a chance they can turn on Konoha. It would also give the scientist a legion of his own if he wanted to betray the Hidden Leaf. For now, however, Delta 2.0's presence has been graciously accepted because Eida has been teleported in by Code to even the odds.

The all-seeing bot may well be Delta's match, but it's a risk Shikamaru will have to take. Naruto is weaker following Kurama's death, as is Sasuke after losing his Rinnegan, so he's hoping Delta lives up to the billing and takes these villains down. And ultimately, with Daemon still loose, Delta may be needed for road missions as well as the Hidden Leaf's new defender.
