Boruto: Orochimaru’s Greatest Servant Should Become a Konoha Shinobi

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Boruto: Naruto Next Generations Episode 173, "The Secret Behind The Underground Room," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Slowly but surely, it seems Orochimaru is ramping up his old sinister tricks in the Boruto and honestly, it's unsurprising. The Sannin is notably lax given that his work on the Hashirama Cell was stolen, not to mention he's treating the wounded Mitsuki more like a science project than a son.

But this has brought to light an older clone named Log, who's actually showing a lot more care and consideration for Mitsuki. And seeing as he's probably run his course with Orochimaru, Log's attitude really proves that the snake shinobi's best servant deserves better and should officially become a Konoha ninja.

There's a lot of heroic potential to be explored with Log as he's definitely the best of what Orochimaru represents. The villain's apparently been redeemed, hiding out in a secret lair and making sure not to cross Naruto's officers after the war against Kaguya. But while Suigetsu is still aiding Orochimaru, the scientist depends mostly on Log, not just in the lab as an assistant, but in the field collecting research.

Still, Log's under-used as is and seeing him investigating Hashirama's DNA and how the Fabrications were made by the shady Doctor in Iwagakure, one can't help but feel he'd be a better fit under Naruto, or even partnering with Sasuke as a Ranger. That's not to say he needs to abandon Orochimaru, as he can pull double-duty, but this liberation would help him define his identity more.

Log's appears to be growing weary of his "dad's" cold parenting and the experiments on Mitsuki. He's also curious as to why Mitsuki is attached to the likes of Boruto and Sarada. Log, after all, was engineered to be a tool, a flawed pawn to be used and sacrificed. To help Mitsuki choose his own path and see the kid pick humanity means a lot as Log embraces his own deficiencies. Log didn't want Mitsuki's memories altered in the past, so he's at least intrigued about the learning experience in Konoha, hinting that there's a loneliness inside him.

It'd evolve him and even help redeem Orochimaru further. Another son integrating here with a moral compass would show that Orochimaru's bloodline has indeed moved past his twisted ways. What would make it more fitting is Log working with Konomaharu to atone for a murder from decades ago. Orochimaru killed Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage and Konohamaru's grandfather, so he and Log working to repair that rift would go a long way to getting the forgiveness any of Orochimaru's kin would need to peacefully live among other shinobi. It could even reignite the Sannin days where Orochimaru fought alongside Tsunade and Jiraiya.

And make no mistake, Log wants to be a hero. As he sedates Mitsuki to prevent him from running off to help Team 7 against Kara operatives in the Land of Valleys, you can see on Log's face that he wants to be there. It would give Orochimaru insight as to how his research was co-opted, it'd help Naruto and Konoha recover their property, but more so, Log would get to save his brother's friends. In other words, this help Log grow into more than just a drone in a lab.
