Boruto: Code’s Devious Plan Backfired – But in a Good Way

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Chapter 68 of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, “Scar,” by Masashi Kishimoto, Mikio Ikemoto, Mari Morimoto and Snir Aharon, now available in English from Viz Media.

In the Boruto manga, as Code held Shikamaru hostage in the Konoha forest, not even Naruto could predict how bad things would get. The fight got flipped on its head when Momoshiki possessed Boruto and battled Kawaki, who harnessed his second Karma mark and mortally wounded the boy. It left Code scrambling for a contingency plan, knowing if he couldn't use Boruto as a sacrifice for the God Tree, then he'd have to break his pact with Eida and use Kawaki as the meal for the Ten Tails.

Luckily Code was able to improvise quickly, laying a trap by hiding a teleporting band on Shikamaru before fleeing. He hoped that when the senior shinobi got back to the Hidden Leaf, he could then use this to teleport in and upgrade to ensure he'd be able to get his sacrificial lamb down the line. However, while Code's devious plan backfired in Chapter 68, it was in a good way because ultimately, it brings his biggest weapon to Naruto's village.

Eida arrived in Konoha in the Boruto manga

Code wanted to get to Amado so he could have the former Kara scientist remove his limiters. Isshiki had the engineer place them on Code years ago so the teen wouldn't become more powerful than him, but with the alien overlord dead, Code wants to be at full strength to carry out Isshiki's legacy and bleed the world of all its chakra. So he listened in, using the band like a radio, as Shikamaru chided Amado for giving Kawaki a second Karma without anyone knowing.

Amado argued it was for the best because Kawaki would be a valuable protector, especially after Naruto lost Kurama and Sasuke lost his Rinnegan. Sensing the strife, Code saw this as an opportunity to go through the band and teleport in, knocking Shikamaru away.

Code tried to force a stunned Amado to say the commands to remove the limiters, choking him and making it clear he'd kill him if he didn't. However, Shikamaru had a reprogrammed Delta bot from Kara come in and attack Code, affirming he sensed the band and use it to bait Code in knowing the bot was the equalizer. She always taunted Code during their days together that she was better, and make no mistake, Delta proved it again.

Eida arrived in Konoha in the Boruto manga

Little did they know, though, Code wasn't about escaping. He had a second trap in play: using another secret band to allow Eida to portal into the room. Amado was left petrified looking at her because he thought she was decommissioned. He knew instantly, with her predictive powers, the shinobi who sensed the intrusion and who are arriving will face a major handicap.

With Boruto recovering after Momoshiki healed him in order to keep the vessel for his soul alive and Kawaki also badly damaged after the brawl in the woods, Konoha's at its most vulnerable. Thus, Naruto and Sasuke will have to intervene, but being so de-powered, their chances against the all-seeing, all-knowing killer cyborg in Eida will be very slim -- which could leave the Hidden Leaf in tatters.
