WARNING: The following contains spoilers for My Dress-Up Darling Episode 5, "It's Probably Because This Is the Best Boob Bag Here" now streaming on Funimation and Crunchyroll.
Previously on My Dress-Up Darling, Gojo spent all night finishing Marin's dream cosplay just in time for their anime event the next day. Realizing he'd misunderstood her suggestion for a definitive deadline, Marin burst into tears, but Gojo is simply relieved to learn that Marin still has time to cosplay with her brand new costume. After wearing it and realizing it's a perfect fit, Marin decides to go to the event anyway after Gojo takes some photos of her in it with her phone.
The ever-so-tired Gojo is delighted to see Marin absolutely beaming. It isn't long until she attracts attention from photographers at the event, who form a line to take pictures of her in character. Gojo looks on, enamored at how much of a natural she is at it. Eventually, some bittersweet thoughts creep in and he desperately tries to cherish each moment -- for it may be their last. After all, Marin's dream in My Dress-Up Darling is already realized. What use does she have for Gojo now?
He reflects on his adventures with Marin and starts to feel nostalgic for them until he is quickly interrupted by an overheating Marin, who is close to passing out due to the high temperatures and the thick, unbreathable fabric of the dress.
After retreating indoors, cooling down and sharing an awkwardly intimate moment when Marin asks Gojo to wipe the sweat off of her back, they agree to head home for the day. On the train ride back, Gojo sadly reflects with Marin on how much fun he's had, thinking its over. Marin excitedly asks him what she should do for her next cosplay, exclaiming that she has at least 50 other favorite characters she wants to dress up as.
Gojo is naturally ecstatic about this, and as Marin looks for mannequins online to buy for him, he starts to nod off. She tells him it's okay to take a nap, and as she reflects how much fun she had today thanks to Gojo, he sleepily comments on how beautiful Marin looked today. Marin suddenly has a flashback to when he said he cannot describe something or someone as pretty or beautiful unless he truly means it from the heart, and her face immediately turns tomato ends. Episode 5 ends with Marin at complete shock at the realization.
My Dress-Up Darling continues to create an even balance between wholesome heartstring-pulling moments and moments of teasing that would cause anyone to blush. Although their first goal together was achieved pretty quickly, Marin assures both Gojo and the viewers that this is the first of many cosplay adventures they will be having together. What could be next for the adorable duo?
