Klem Talks About His Latest Release And Future Plans! | EDMN Interview

After launching his career with the iconic label Armada Music, Klem made his early mark in the industry in the world of progressive house, delivering melodic & emotionally driven tracks – that resonated on an international scale. Over time, his sound has evolved into a refined blend of French Touch, Soul, Funk, and modern dance music, forming a unique and recognizable sonic identity. Known for immersive tracks like ‘A Night In Paris’, ‘5 Steps Ahead’ & ‘The Cube’, Klems draws inspiration from a wide palette of artists — from Cubicolor, Jordan Rakei, and Radiohead, to the timeless groove of French electro and soul-infused acts. His music balances introspection and movement, layering analog textures with digital precision.

We’re excited to be joined by Klems in this exclusive interview to find out more about his latest release, as well as inspirations and influences that culminate in his unique production style & soundscapes.

How’s your Spring season been & are you ready for the Summer months?

Thank you! I’m really excited about the release of My Little Motown — the response so far has been incredibly encouraging, and it means a lot. Right now, I’m pretty much locked in the studio, working on the next releases and putting the final touches on my upcoming album. This Spring has been especially inspiring — there’s something about the return of the sun that really fuels my creativity.

After taking a break from producing for several years, it feels amazing to reconnect with that joy of creating again. There’s a real sense of momentum, and I’m riding it fully into the Summer.

When did you first start production on ‘My Little Motown’?

The idea for My Little Motown actually started years ago — just a simple loop, a draft that had been sitting on my computer like many unfinished sketches. Over time, I found myself more and more inspired by soul and disco — both the iconic tracks and more obscure gems. I thought it could be interesting to blur the lines between those influences and explore a sound that merges genres.

That’s exactly what I aimed to do here, especially in the break section — a fusion between the soulful energy of Motown and the rhythmic textures of French Touch. I finally completed the track in 2023. The mastering was handled by Stardelta Mastering, who did an amazing job using analog tape to bring out that beautiful saturation and warmth from the classic soul era, while still keeping the dynamics fresh and contemporary.

How would you describe your current sound to our readers?

My Little Motown definitely leans into a Soultronic vibe — a mix of soul-inspired harmony, electronic textures, and groove-driven rhythm. But I’ve never been one to lock myself into a single genre.

As a drummer originally, rhythm and beat are at the core of everything I create. But I’m also drawn to strong melodies and the emotional lift that subtle harmonic shifts can bring — often with a slight touch of melancholy.

Today, electronic music is still my foundation, but I love navigating between Deep House, French Touch, and Soultronic aesthetics. There are even moments where my roots in Progressive House and Trance shine through — not in a dominant way, but enough to leave a mark. That sound is still part of who I am.

‘My Little Motown’ is a fresh direction for you artistically — would you say?

Yes — after my earlier releases on Armada, I feel I’ve grown a lot, both musically and personally. Not that those first tracks weren’t sincere, but I’ve changed — and honestly, so has the genre. I felt the need to step away for a while. After years of producing, I had hit a wall creatively — constantly dealing with writer’s block and the feeling that I was repeating myself. That seven-year break gave me the space to reset.

Coming back to music, I was drawn to a more personal sound. And I think that reflects where electronic music is now too — the lines between genres are more fluid than ever. It’s not just about evolution, it’s about the genre itself becoming more open, more hybrid. This shift allowed me to experiment with new harmonies, textures, and production techniques I hadn’t explored before. EDM still means a lot to me, and even if this release explores something different, that energy hasn’t gone anywhere. Let’s just say… there are some BIG surprises coming. 😉

What can our readers expect from your upcoming album ‘As I Am’?

In a way, this album is the direct answer to everything we’ve talked about. As I Am is probably the clearest representation of how my music has transformed in recent years — both in sound and in intention.

Listeners will go from emotionally-charged electronic intros, to soul-driven tracks, to warmer and more uplifting electronic moments. It’s a journey through genres, built to reflect the full spectrum of what I’ve been exploring creatively.

Some of these tracks have been sleeping on my Mac for over 10 years. Sharing them now — finished, sincere, and without filters — means a lot. The album title says it all. This is me, as I am.

What’s the next single from Klems going to be?

The full album As I Am is scheduled for Q3 2025, but before that, the next single will be Infinite Affection, due out in June. It’s an atmospheric Deep House track, clearly inspired by the Anjunadeep sound — warm, emotional, and immersive. Another step on the path, and a different shade of the same story.
