Select GKIDS animated movies, including the Academy Award-nominated Ernest and Celestine and A Cat in Paris, are headed to Tubi.

The new animated movies will begin rolling out on Tubi later this month. In addition to the two previously mentioned Academy Award nominees, the new selection of films also includes Nocturna, a 2007 Spanish fantasy that won a Goya Award. The award-winning Ernest and Celestine is a 2012 comedy directed by  Stéphane Aubier, Vincent Patar and Benjamin Renner, and is based on the series of celebrated children's books by Belgian author Gabrielle Vincent. The movie tells the story of Celestine, an artistic mouse, and Ernest, a desperate bear, who form an unlikely friendship. The movie was screened at the Cannes Film Festival and released to widespread critical acclaim. It was nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards, but ultimately lost to Disney's Frozen. The film was distributed by GKIDS in the United States and given an English dub that starred Forest Whitaker, Mackenzie Foy, Lauren Bacall and Paul Giamatti.

A Cat in Paris was originally released in 2010 and was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Picture. The movie centers on the titular cat, who during the day lives a quiet life as the pet of Zoe, a girl who is mourning the loss of her father, but at night assists the burglar Nico, who performs daring jewel heists. The movie was produced by French animation studio Folimage and directed by Alain Gagnol and Jean-Loup Felicioli, who also teamed up to direct the similarly critically acclaimed 2015 film Phantom Boy.

GKIDS has built up a reputation for being the distributor behind the North American releases of several of the world's most critically acclaimed animated movies of the last several years, including Satoshi Kon's Millenium Actress, Kyoto Animation's acclaimed Liz and the Blue Bird, and most recently, Mamoru Hosoda's Belle, which was one of Japan's highest grossing films of 2021 and premiered in the United States in January.

Tubi is a streaming service owned by the Fox Corporation. The service is available on a variety of devices, including Android and iOS mobile devices, select smart TVs, and video game consoles such as the Sony Playstation 4, PS5, Microsoft Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and more.
