Tokyo Revengers’ Manjiro is Ready to Rumble in Flawless New Cosplay

A cosplayer has managed to perfectly capture the look and swagger of Tokyo Revengers' Manjiro Sano.

Japanese cosplayer chiba_2_2 posted several pictures of their Mikey cosplay to Instagram. The cosplayer perfectly manages to recreate the gang leader's carefree yet melancholic demeanor. The costume comes complete with Manjiro's distinctive coat, which is adorned with the name of the Tokyo Manji Gang, embroidered in kanji. One of the pictures shows the cosplayer eating a dorayaki, a type of traditional Japanese dessert that sandwiches sweet azuki bean paste between two pancakes, which is stated to be Manjiro's favorite food. Another photo also shows the cosplayer in the middle of the brawl, as he fights back to back with the gang's second-in-command, Ken "Draken" Ryuguji.

More of chiba_2_2's cosplay can be seen on their Instagram page. In addition to portraying a teenage Mikey, the cosplayer has also portrayed the younger, elementary school version of the character. In addition to their numerous Tokyo Revengers costumes, chiba_2_2 has also done cosplay from a variety of other anime and video games, including Genshin Impact and Sk8 The Infinity.

Tokyo Revengers fans can see another real-world rendition of Manjiro Sano in the series' first live-action movie, which was released in Japan in the summer of 2021. Manjiro is portrayed in the film by actor Ryo Yoshizawa, who may be best known to western audiences for his starring roles in the Kamen Rider Fourze TV series and the Gintama live-action movies. The movie also stars Takumi Kitamura as the time-displaced delinquent, Takemichi Hanagaki. Kitamura will also play another famous delinquent, Yusuke Urameshi, in Netflix's upcoming Yu Yu Hakusho remake. The Tokyo Revengers movie was the highest grossing live-action movie in Japan in 2021, pulling in ¥4.38 billion (about $39.5 million USD). An international release for the movie has yet to be announced.

Created by Ken Wakui in 2017, Tokyo Revengers is one of the biggest surprise hits to emerge from the manga industry in recent years. The series has over 40 million copies in circulation worldwide and was the recipient of a Kodansha manga award. An anime adaptation was produced by Liden Films, the studio that also created the anime adaptation of Hiromu Arakawa's The Heroic Legend of Arslan manga. The anime series wrapped up its first season in 2021 and has already announced a continuation, which will be focused on the story's Christmas Showdown arc. The complete first season is available to stream from Crunchyroll.
