The second season of the original anime Tiger & Bunny will make its return on Netflix next year.
The new season was announced with a trailer, which features the tagline "HEROES ARE BACK." The video previews the series's new theme song, "kaleido proud fiesta" by the teen pop group Unison Square Garden. Season 2 will be set two years after the events of the franchise's second film, Tiger & Bunny The Movie: The Rising.
Many members of the creative team from previous entries in the franchise are returning for the new season. This includes screenwriter Masafumi Nishida, composer Yoshihiro Ike and character designer Masakazu Katsura. Anime industry veteran Atsuko Kase (Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory) is joining the team as the show's new director.
The series also confirmed that several voice actors will be reprising their roles, including Hiroaki Hirata (The Night Beyond the Tricornered Window) and Masakazu Morita (Pokémon Evolutions) as protagonists Kotetsu T. Kaburagi/Wild Tiger and Barnaby Brooks Jr. respectively. The other returning cast members are Minako Kotobuki (The Seven Deadly Sins), Taiten Kusunoki (The Prince of Tennis), Mariya Ise (Made in Abyss), Kenjiro Tsuda (Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club), Go Inoue (My Hero Academia) and Nobuhiko Okamoto (Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?).
Tiger & Bunny depicts a futuristic world where superheroes fight crime while also promoting real-life sponsors. The story is set in a reimaged version of New York City called Stern Bild City and follows heroes Kotetsu and Barnaby, who are forced to work together by their employers. Season 1 of the anime ran from April 2011 to September with 25 episodes. The first movie, Tiger & Bunny The Movie: The Beginning, premiered in September 2012, and was followed up with a second film in February 2014.
Beyond the anime and movie adaptations, Tiger & Bunny has also inspired a one-shot manga and two video games, Tiger & Bunny On Air Jack! and Tiger & Bunny Heroes Day. The series will potentially have two live-action adaptations: the first was a Japanese stage play entitled Tiger & Bunny: The Live, and the second is a film that was announced at Sunrise's New York Comic Con panel in 2015. Hollywood veterans Ron Howard (Solo: A Star Wars Story) and Brian Thomas Grazer (Tick, Tick... Boom!) are signed on as the movie's producers.
The second season of Tiger & Bunny will debut on Netflix on April 8, 2022. Season 1 of the series is available for streaming on Netflix and Hulu.
