The Rising of the Shield Hero’s Japanese Cast to Guest at Virtual Crunchyroll Expo

Three members of The Rising of the Shield Hero's Japanese cast will be attending Virtual Crunchyroll Expo in August.

The Virtual Crunchyroll Expo announced its next set of guests for this summer's anime event. Asami Seto (voice of Raphtalia), Kaito Ishikawa (voice of Naofumi Iwatani) and Rina Hidaka (voice of Filo) will join the lineup of actors brought together to celebrate Japanese animation. The event runs from Aug. 5-7.

The Rising of the Shield Hero anime premiered in 2019, and the first season contained 25 episodes. A second season is set to premiere October 2021 on Crunchyroll, with the return of the main Japanese voice cast. The anime is based off the dark-fantasy light novels written by Aneko Yusagi, which were adapted into a manga series before anime adaptation. The story follows Naofumi Iwatani, a Japanese high school student who is whisked into a parallel world along with three other men. The four men are summoned to be the world's Cardinal Heroes, tasked with fighting hordes of monsters that arrive in Waves. Naofumi inherits a legendary shield, but is ostracized from the others when he is betrayed by the nobility. Joined by the demi-human Raphtalia and the bird-like Filo, Naofumi works to fight monsters so he can level up to become powerful enough to protect the new world he now calls home.

The cast of The Rising of the Shield Hero will just be a few of the big names at the Virtual Crunchyroll Expo. Other voice actors from series such as My Hero Academia, Sword Art Online and Demon Slayer will also be in attendance. In addition to guest panels, attendees will also have access to exclusive merchandise and events. Highlights include screenings, fan-led panels, cosplay contests and artwork exhibitions.

The Japanese cast of The Rising of the Shield Hero are also known for other popular anime series. Asami Seto is known for her work in Chihayafuru and Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai, which also featured Ishikawa. Rina Hidaka appeared in Inu X Boku Secret Service and Strike the Blood.

The Virtual Crunchyroll Expo event will stream on expo.crunchyroll.com from Aug. 5 through Aug. 7. Registration is free and gives fans access to all aspects of the event. Detailed guest schedules will be updated further as the event draws closer, along with streaming times for panels and activities.
