The Justice League Is Dead and Dark Crisis Arrives In the DC Event’s First Preview

A preview for Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition shows the DC Universe begin to grapple with the fact that the Justice League is dead.

DC released a preview for the Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition, which serves as a prelude to DC's upcoming Dark Crisis event. The issue comes from writer Joshua Williamson and artists Jim Cheung and Daniel Sampere, with cover art by Sampere. The synposis reads, "Witness the rise and fall of the Justice League! The event years in the making is here with Dark Crisis. The Justice League is comics’ greatest super-team—made up of DC Comics’ legendary Super Heroes, they have saved the world countless times. No crisis was too much for them to handle…until now! The Justice League has been defeated by the Great Darkness and its army of DC’s most dangerous villains—now a new generation of heroes must rise to protect not only the Multiverse…but also the legacy of the DC Universe! A prelude to DC’s biggest story of 2022!"

All but one member of the Justice League met their demise after fighting Pariah and the Dark Army in DC's Justice League #75, which comes from writer Joshua Williamson, penciler Rafa Sandoval, inker Jordi Taragona, colorist Matt Herms and letterer Josh Reed. With Black Adam marking the sole survivor of the attack, Dark Crisis sees the remaining superheroes come together and protect the planet from oncoming threats.

The Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition preview shows heroes like Jon Kent/Superman, Wally West/The Flash and others battle a host of enemies that would have likely otherwise been handled by the Justice League. "With the Justice League missing, everyone thinks it's time to take their shot," Jon Kent says in one moment. The final page of the preview shows Nightwing/Dick Grayson commemorating the Justice League at candlelight vigil event outside of the Hall of Justice. "Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, John Stewart, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Aquaman, Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter," he tells the crowd. "You could never question what they stood for. What they meant to the world. I know to so many of you here today they were more than just mentors. They were fathers, mothers, friends...family. There will be hard days ahead of us, but I promise you if we work together, hope will fuel the light that pushes us through this darkness just as that candle did the day I took my oath."

Watching Nightwing's speach from a nearby rooftop is Deathstroke/Slade Wilson. Williamson and Sampere previously took to Twitter to tease a massive Nightwing and Deathstroke battle, which appears to take outside of a partially destroyed Titans Academy, coming in Dark Crisis #2, which releases in July.

Dark Crisis #0 FCBD Special Edition releases for free on May 7 as part of Free Comic Book Day from DC.
