The Genius Prince’s Guide: Wein Deals With the Consequences of His Schemes

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 6 of The Genius Prince’s Guide to Raising a Nation Out of Debt, "Holy Intrigue," now streaming on Funimation.

Ever since Prince Wein Salema Arbalest accidentally defeated the kingdom of Marden not once, but twice, he’s been noticed by all the other neighboring kingdoms. His unwanted victory even got the attention of his childhood friend "Lowa," who turned out to be the imperial princess Lowellmina of Earthworld. In fact, she paid Wein and his best friend Ninym Ralei a surprise visit that resulted in an unexpected marriage proposal.

Wein couldn't decide what caught him off guard more: the fact he was friends with the imperial princess of Earthworld this whole time, or that she tried to rope him into a political marriage for her own convenience. All the same, Wein got caught in the middle of another conflict with the Marquess of Antgatal, whose son also wanted to marry Lowa for his own convenience. The latter died an accidental death on Natra palace grounds, making both Wein and Lowa look like conspirators and forcing them to work together to minimize the damage.

On top of all that's happened, Wein also got caught in the crossfire of a rebellion led by a man named Owl. Though Wein's diabolical scheming with Lowa averted a war with Antgatal, it only briefly hindered this rebellion. In Episode 6 of The Genius Prince’s Guide, Wein finds himself dealing with the consequences of his actions with both Marden and the rebellion as three separate conspirators work to dethrone him.

The first conspirator is King Ordalasse of Cavarin, who also invaded Marden while the border was weakened by the war with Natra. Ordalasse was also responsible for dethroning the king of Marden with the help of an inside man who served as the latter king's advisor. With Prince Wein as his newest target, the King of Cavarin lures him and Ninym into a trap by inviting them to the Spirit Festival. Upon arrival, the Cavarin king invites Wein to join the Holy Elite, a religious group comprised of Levetian’s ruling members who are also conspiring against him.

Wein has a private discussion with the Elite known as Caldmellia, who asks him to kill the remnants of Marden's army in exchange for joining their group. Having already formed an alliance with this group -- especially Zeno, the daughter of a Marden soldier who was killed in action -- Wein refuses. Unbeknown to him, however, Caldmellia is actually in allegiance with Owl, who wants to take down Wein both for taking his right arm and for sabotaging his rebellion.

To make matters worse, nobles from his own kingdom of Natra are also conspiring to dethrone him under the leadership of a mysterious woman named Ibis. They successfully seize his goldmine, though their interest in dethroning Wein is left ambiguous. It appears Natra's nobles have ties to Marden, Antagal and Cavarin that were easily compromised with Wein's scheming and to protect their own interests (and assets), they need to remove Wein by any means possible. The Cavarin King's own General Levert is already planning to assassinate him, and it's just as likely Caldmellia and Ibis intend to do the same.

While being dethroned and relieved of his duties as the Crown Prince of Natra is exactly what Wein wants, he's not the type to go down without a fight. He also doesn't want to die for permanent freedom as he actually does value living, and has people in his life he wants to protect such as Ninym and his younger sister, Falanya.

To escape an assassination attempt from three powerful conspirators, he may be forced to seek backing from Lowa, who is his only real ace in the hole in an otherwise deadly situation. If Lowa does succeed in becoming Empress of Earthworld, she'll become Wein's most powerful ally yet as The Genius Prince's Guide continues.
