The Devil Is a Part-Timer Season 2 Is Confirmed – But When Should We Expect It?

As a popular reverse-isekai anime, fans have been eagerly awaiting news of The Devil Is a Part-Timer! Season 2 since the series originally aired in 2013. After an eight-year hiatus, and dwindling hopes, its long-overdue second season has finally been confirmed. Here's what happened in Season 1 of The Devil Is a Part-Timer! and when to expect its highly-anticipated Season 2.

The Plot & Origin of The Devil Is a Part-Timer

Sadao Maou (The Devil Is A Part Timer)

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! stars Maou, the infamous and all-powerful Demon King who wreaked havoc across his world of Ente Isla. While waging war against the heroes who want to end his rule, the skilled Hero Emilia Justina cornered Maou and his top demon general, Shirō Ashiya. In order to avoid death and defeat, Maou and Ashiya escape through another dimension and arrive in modern-day Japan. As they bide their time before returning to their war-torn world, they discover their powers are unreliable and dwindling. Because they can only use their magic when it's absolutely necessary, Maou and Ashiya are forced to assimilate into modern society.

Soon realizing that surviving in the real world requires human currency, Maou is forced to take a part-time job at a local MgRonald's. As Maou earns money to pay their landlord for a studio apartment, Ashiya takes up a domestic role of cooking and cleaning. They soon fall into a mundane, and realistic, life routine, creating comical moments of the evil beings struggling with average tasks like Ashiya fighting other shoppers during a sale at the grocery store. Maou also struggles at his fast-food job and gets by with the help and direction of his coworker, Chiho Sasaki, who has a secret crush on him. As Maou gets settled into his new routine, he becomes overly ambitious and wants to earn more power at work. He becomes incredibly hardworking and dedicated until he's promoted to shift manager at MgRonald's.

However, Maou and Ashiya's boring life is interrupted when they discover Hero Emilia Justina followed them to the modern world so she could finish her job of destroying them. Emilia also had to survive in modern society, working at a call center where she earns more money than Maou. As the two constantly run into each other and exchange threats of violence, they become unexpected allies when archangel Sariel tries to destroy Tokyo. After growing fond of Tokyo and its people, Maou finally unleashes his devilish powers to defend the city, reverse the fight's damage and restore everything back to normal. Season 1 of The Devil Is a Part-Timer! ends with Maou and Emilia standing in the rain on good terms.

While the anime's long hiatus since 2013 made fans skeptical about a series continuation, The Devil Is a Part-Timer!
