The popular anime series Hataraku Maō-sama! -- known in English as The Devil Is a Part-Timer! -- is returning for a second season eight years after its original conclusion.

The Devil Is a Part-Timer Season 2 was announced today at the Kadokawa Corporation's Light Novel Expo. The first trailer and key art for the new season have been released, the former of which confirms the return of the original Japanese voice cast. That being said, no plot details or release date are available at this time, nor has it been confirmed if the original English cast will be returning as well (though they certainly seem interested).

The series follows Demon Lord Satan, who aims to conquer the world of Ente Isla by annexing its four continents. Standing in his way is the hero Emilia, who kills two of Satan's demon generals, forcing him and one of his other generals, Alciel, to flee Ente Isla, at which point they find themselves in modern-day Tokyo. In order to survive, a de-powered Satan (under the alias Sadao Maou) gets a part-time job at a fast-food restaurant called MgRonald's -- and quickly becomes a model employee.

The Devil Is a Part-Timer! began life as a series of Japanese light novels written by Satoshi Wagahara and illustrated by 029, which ran from February 2011 to August 2020. A manga adaptation written by Wagahara and illustrated by Akio Hiiragi launched in 2012. It is still ongoing today and has spawned a number of spinoffs, including the alternate universe-set The Devil Is a Part-Timer! High School! -- written by Wagahara and illustrated by Kurone Mishima -- which ran from 2012 to 2015.

An anime adaptation of the The Devil Is a Part-Timer! was produced by White Fox and directed by Naoto Hosoda. It initially ran for a single 13-episode season, premiering in April 2013 and concluding a couple months later in June 2013. The animation crew for the newly-announced Season 2 has yet to be announced, though the trailer does feature a slightly different art style than Season 1.
