That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime tells the story of Satoru Mikami, a middle-aged salaryman in modern day Japan whose life comes to a sudden end after he is stabbed to death by an unknown assailant. To Mikami's surprise, he finds himself reincarnated in a high fantasy world as a slime, the lowliest of all fantasy-RPG monsters. Using his new unique abilities, Mikami eventually takes on the new name of Rimuru Tempest and establishes a nation of fellow monsters ,with the ultimate goal of creating a society where all races of monsters can co-exist with the human kingdoms of this new world.

The series, sometimes referred to as "Slime Isekai" by its fans, began in 2014 with a light novel series written by Fuse and illustrated by artist Mitz Vah. The novel series was an immediate hit with over 4.5 million copies in print, and was quickly followed up with a manga adaptation in 2015. The manga was even more well-received, and has 25 million copies in circulation worldwide as of May 2021. That manga was further adapted into an anime series, which premiered in 2018 and received a second season that aired in 2021 following multiple delays due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The anime series also received a 12-episode spin-off show, The Slime Diaries, which aired during the spring of 2021. All of the Slime anime series have been produced by studio Eight Bit, which was previously best known for its adaptations of Infinite Stratos and The Irregular At Magic Highschool. Eight Bit was founded in 2008 by former members of Macross animation studio Satelight.

Both seasons of the That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime anime are available for streaming on Funimation and Crunchyroll. The original light novel series is localized and distributed in English by Yen Press, while the manga is available in both print and digital formats from Kodansha.
