Star Wars Theory: Quinlan Vos Was Grogu’s Order 66 Savior

The following contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi Episode 3, "Part III," which premiered Wednesday, June 1, on Disney+.

The Mandalorian gave Star Wars fans an amazing new character in Grogu, but with his introduction came a lot of questions. The series revealed that he was raised by the Jedi and was rescued from their temple during Order 66, but who rescued him? Now that Obi-Wan Kenobi has confirmed that Quinlan Vos survived and is helping to smuggle Younglings to safety, some viewers believe that Quinlan and not Barris Offee is responsible for saving Grogu from the worst devastation in franchise history.

Obi-Wan Kenobi's third episode revealed that Quinlan had not been part of the Emperor's genocide of the Jedi Order and now helps to get people to safety through a series of hidden safe houses with allies across the galaxy referred to as "The Path." This Path may not have been established when Grogu was rescued, but Quinlan saving him could have started to lay the groundwork for what it became by the time of the newest Disney+ series.

Quinlan was a powerful Jedi during the Clone Wars who participated in missions with Obi-Wan and was sent to assassinate Count Dooku. His unique Force power of psychometry allowed him to sense the history of an object through the Force. This made him an incredible tracker and enabled him to excel in many of his missions. While Quinlan tapped into the dark side once, he remained loyal to the Jedi and many fans are every excited to know that he wasn't killed.

Instead, Quinlan was on Kashyyyk when Order 66 occurred, and there are a couple of theories about how he could have rescued Grogu. The first would require Disney to alter the existing canon -- which has been done several times already -- and place the character on Coruscant. He could have found a helpless Grogu surrounded by Clone troopers, sensed his history and importance as the possible key to Force-sensitive clones, and fled with him in order to hide Grogu from the Empire.

The second option is that Quinlan escaped from Kashyyyk and returned to the Jedi Temple. Once he was there, he used his psychometry and sensed what happened to Grogu. He tracked him down and rescued him from an Imperial science facility. From there, he could have worked to move Grogu to safety, setting him up with the group of mercenaries seen protected him in The Mandalorian. During that time, he made friends, founded safe houses and began the creation of The Path.

Quinlan Vos was a great Jedi during the Clone Wars, and it's hard to believe that he won't play a bigger role in the Star Wars universe now that Obi-Wan Kenobi has mentioned him by name. Having him rescue Grogu and help build the Path gives Quinlan a purpose to pursue after the fall of the Order. He may even be able to inspire Obi-Wan to reclaim his lost faith. While Quinlan hasn't been featured in a lot of Star Wars content, he is the perfect savior for Grogu and so many other people.
