One-Punch Man’s Beloved Villain Establishes a New, Fitting Martial Arts Form

Warning: This article contains spoilers for One-Punch Man Chapter 155, "Results," One, Yusuke Murata, John Werry, and James Gaubatz, available in English at Viz Media and Manga Plus.

One-Punch Man has debuted a lot of villains, but there is no one like Garo. When Garo was first introduced, he was already strong. However, he wasn't powerful enough to be considered the best. Since he was Bang's disciple and the best one at that, he is very proficient in using the old martial artist's style. But what truly distinguishes him from the other villains is his progression. He managed to get stronger after every battle by absorbing his opponent's style, and he did so at a very fast pace. All his hard work has produced results in the recent chapter of One-Punch Man.

When Saitama, Flashy Flash, and Oculette finally returned to the surface with the help of the No. 1 hero, they've quickly noticed the aftermath of King's usage of his ultimate technique. Saitama immediately went to the battered Genos, ignoring the very visible Garo. Flashy Flash, however, wasn't just going to disregard the obvious threat in front of him. Garo had just recovered his consciousness and was also trying to process the situation when the flashy hero launched a sneak attack.

Surprised that the monster could dodge his attack, Flashy Flash asked him who he was. Garo introduced himself, also piquing the attention of another powerful villain -- Platinum Spermatozoon. They joined the fray in a very meme-able manner, which provoked the other two. Just like that, the three engaged in an ultra-fast three-way battle. They were going at it so fast that they were able to manifest a multicolored constellation in the sky. The three mighty beings seemed equal until Garo finally perfected his own martial art, The Killing God Fist of Monster Destruction.

Ever since the beginning, Garo always wanted to rule the world. He admired monsters and despised heroes enough to start hunting them down. But in order to achieve his dream, he had to be stronger. He used his previous experiences to further himself, deviating further and further away from Bang's style. Ultimately, he accrued enough knowledge and fighting experience to come up with his own style.

While forming his own discipline will give an immediate boost, it may also indicate that he has started to plateau. It can be argued that he can continue to refine his Killing God Fist of Monster Destruction, but he already has the utmost confidence in it. He even named it after the highest threat level, God.

Assuming that his martial arts have indeed reached perfection, then the only means for Garo to get even stronger is to further his monsterization. But nothing is concrete yet. Those who are curious can only patiently wait for further developments to unfurl.
