One Piece: Kid & Law Make a Final Push to Stop Big Mom

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for One Piece Chapter #1030,"Echoing The Impermanence of All Things," by Eiichiro Oda, Stephen Paul and Vanessa Satone, available in English from Viz Media.

In the most recent chapter of One Piece, both Kid and Law were forced to push themselves beyond their limits. Since they left Luffy to face Kaido on the rooftop of Onigashima, the two Supernovas were tasked with bringing down Big Mom, the other Yonko on the island. This proved to be much more difficult than either had hoped, especially due to Hawkins' interference during his match with Killer. However, even afterward, the battle seemed practically futile.

Already beaten and bloody, the two captains were facing a Yonko that so far seemed practically unharmed by their attacks. Big Mom and her homies had been wailing on the pair for quite a while, with Prometheus blasting Law earlier and Kid taking a direct hit from the Yonko's "Mama-Raid." Regardless of how powerful Kid and Law were, it was clear that in their current state, victory would be impossible.

With Big Mom's Haki being much more developed than either Kid or Law's, the Supernovas knew they had to rely on their Devil Fruits to pull off a win. Fortunately, each of them has at least partially awakened their Devil Fruits, albeit not completely like Doflamingo or Katakuri. The drawback to this difference is that while Doflamingo and Katakuri managed to use their awakened abilities at no real cost to their stamina, the same could not be said of Kid or Law.

Law activated his awakening first, with its application being quite unexpected. Instead of his classic "Room" ability, where he creates a space in which he has complete control of everything that goes on within it, he called on the power of "Kroom." This ability allows Law to imbue his sword with the power of a "room," making it much more powerful. By doing so, Law managed to pierce Big Mom's infamously impervious form, then released a huge shockwave throughout her body. The damage was so great that it managed to cause Big Mom to bleed and even cough up some blood, implying a decent amount of internal damage.

Not to be outdone, Kid used Law's attack as a diversion to set up one of his own. Kid's normal powers involve the manipulation of magnetism -- specifically, his own magnetic field. This allows him to repel or attract metal, as well as use the latter ability to form giant metal constructs such as his iconic metal arm or demonic metal golems. By awakening his fruit, Kid gained the ability "Assign," which allows him to affect the magnetic fields of other objects and even people. After using it on Big Mom, he turned her into a giant powerful magnet that attracted all the metal on Onigashima, including her sword homie Napoleon, toward her in an attack he called "Punk Clash."

Kid uses Punk Clash and Law uses Kroom Anesthesia

While it's unclear whether or not Big Mom was defeated by the attack, this is unfortunately quite unlikely. While she has been fighting for as long as Kaido has, if not longer, she has taken far less damage than her fellow Yonko. Even during the rooftop fight, the Supernovas were mainly focused on taking out Kaido, with Big Mom treated as more of a secondary objective. However, even in the current fight against her, Kid and Law are using a similar strategy.

Previously on the roof, Big Mom was almost taken out after Law hit her with a giant boulder that pushed her off and almost sent her into the ocean. It's quite possible that neither Kid nor Law are actually trying to beat or kill her directly, but rather are using their abilities to exploit her weaknesses and just get rid of her. After all, even though she's incredibly dangerous, she isn't really the main threat. Kaido is the one aiming to rule and destroy Wano -- Big Mom is just along for the ride. So, as long as Kid and Law remove her from the equation, how they do so doesn't really matter.

With the Wano arc finally reaching its long-awaited conclusion, it's certain that these fights are going to end quite soon as well. Whether this is enough to beat Big Mom or was just meant to set up a trap that will incapacitate her is still unclear. However, thankfully, there isn't any break this week, so readers won't have to wait long to find out.
