Ochaco Defies Gravity in Impressive My Hero Academia Cosplay

A new My Hero Academia cosplay offers a dazzling new take on Ochaco Uraraka.

The new take on Class 1-A's gravity-switching hero comes from Nayelin, a cosplayer based in Spain. The cosplay represents the character under the guise of her pro-hero identity, Uravity. The costume faithfully recreates the hero's distinctive pink costume, complete with its tinted visor, oversized wrist guards and protective boots. The photos depict the character using her anti-gravity powers to float over Tokyo.

More of Nayelin's cosplays can be seen on her Instagram profile, where she has portrayed a number of other female characters from popular shonen anime, including Demon Slayer's Love Hashira Mitsuri Kanroji and Naruto's shy but determined kunoichi, Hinata Hyuga.

Uraraka has become one of the most popular characters to emerge from My Hero Academia. The laid-back hero first appeared during the UA High School entrance exams, where she was one of the few candidates that wasn't openly hostile to protagonist Izuku "Deku" Midoriya and would ultimately become one of the first friends that he made at the school. She possesses the Quirk "Zero Gravity," which allows her to remove the effect of gravity on anything that she touches. She makes creative use of that Quirk throughout the series to find clever solutions to seemingly un-winnable situations, and becomes even more useful following her internship with the pro-hero Gunhead, who teaches her a brutal form of marital arts that she is able to effectively combine with her own super powers.

My Hero Academia was created by Kohei Horikoshi and made its debut in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014. The series, which is set in a world where most humans are born with super powers known as "Quirks," has become one of the most successful manga franchises of the last decade, achieving a global circulation of over 65 million copies.  The manga was inspired by Horikoshi's love of western super-hero comics and Japan's live-action tokusatsu (masked hero) shows and movies. Horikoshi is specifically a fan of Marvel's Spider-Man and recently stated that Spider-Man: No Way Home is his new favorite movie. The manga creator also revealed that one of his series' supporting characters was inspired by Dane DeHaan's portrayal of Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Horikoshi's manga is scheduled to conclude before the end of 2022 and recently kicked off the second war between the world's pro-heroes and the villainous All For One. The anime is also scheduled to air its sixth season before the end of the year as well. All five previous seasons of the My Hero Academia anime are available for streaming through Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll and Funimation. The manga is available in English from publisher VIZ Media.
