Netflix’s Pacific Rim: The Black Gets an Epic First Trailer

The first trailer for Pacific Rim: The Black has been released for the Netflix original anime series.

Taking place five years after the events of the first Pacific Rim film, the trailer focuses on siblings Taylor and Hayley, who were left behind when Kaiju swarmed the coast of Australia. One day, Hayley stumbles upon an abandoned Jaeger -- the siblings soon learn to pilot it. Together, they battle the hordes of Kaiju while searching for their missing parents, encountering a mysterious boy and what appears to be a massive Jaeger/Kaiju hybrid.

Pacific Rim: The Black has been in development since 2018, as Legendary Entertainment -- who produced the first Pacific Rim and its sequel Pacific Rim: Uprising -- returning to produce Pacific Rim: The Black. Legendary will also produce anime based on Kong: Skull Island and Tomb Raider for Netflix.

Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson will serve as showrunners for Pacific Rim: The Black, while Polygon Pictures handles animation duties. Polygon previously animated Knights of Sidonia and a trilogy of Godzilla anime films for Netflix, while Kyle and Johnson have worked on other animated series -- including X-Men: Evolution and Wolverine and the X-Men.

The synopsis for Pacific Rim: The Black can be found below.

There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.

Co-created by Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson and produced by Legendary Television and Polygon Pictures, Pacific Rim: The Black premieres March 4 on Netflix.
