My Next Life as a Villainess tells the tale of the reborn Katarina Claes, who found herself trapped in her favorite otome game known as Fortune Lover. In Season 1, Katarina made it her mission to befriend every major game character to prevent her character's seemingly inevitable bad ending. She succeeded, but then bigger challenges came along.
Season 2's plot was more straightforward than its predecessor, but it did introduce fascinating new characters, and established the Department of Magic as an important organization in this game world. By the time Season 2 concluded, Villainess fans were left with a handful of tantalizing questions that upcoming seasons and movies will hopefully answer.
Who Will Win the Race For Katarina's Heart?
Katarina succeeded in preventing Maria Campbell, Fortune Lover's heroine, from falling in love. Instead, every major character -- including Maria herself -- has now fallen in love with Katarina as a dense but compassionate and generous friend. Multiple characters have made their intense passion for her clear, from the gorgeous but aloof Nicol Ascart to the obsessive Mary Hunt and certainly Katarina's official fiance, prince Geordo Stuart. Everyone is aiming to win, but there is not yet a clear forerunner. Despite Geordo's favorable position, he is held in check by the harem's other members, even by the end of Season 2. The race continues.
What Role Will The Department Of Magic Play In the Future?
Thus far, the Department of Magic's role in My Next Life as a Villainess has been peripheral. It existed mostly off-screen until Katarina's foster brother Keith went missing, and Lady Larna/Susanna Randall helped Katarina track him down. Then at the end of Season 2, both Katarina and Maria became official members of the Department of Magic after graduating magic school, and they now have Sora and Raphael Walt as co-workers.
Now Katarina is on the inside, but it's not yet clear how the department will impact her daily life -- or conversely, how she might impact the department and its members. If there's one thing Villainess fans know, it's that Katarina has a way of changing people without even meaning to.
What Will Fortune Lover II's Plot Be?
Previously in Villainess, Katarina had successfully dodged all of her character's doom flags in Fortune Lover -- but in a dream one night, she stumbled upon her real-life friend Acchan, who started playing Fortune Lover II, the official sequel. Katarina didn't even know this game existed, and has no prior knowledge of its plot.
She learned only a few basic plot details from watching Acchan start the game, such as the return of Maria and her nemesis Katarina Claes, along with Maria's new role in the Department of Magic -- and the introduction of a few new male love interests. As Villainess continues beyond Season 2, Katarina has a brand new set of doom flags to face, and it's anyone's guess what they will be and how -- or if -- Katarina will handle them.
Will Katarina Start Using Dark Magic Herself?
Dark magic has been a part of Fortune Lover's story since the early days when Raphael Walt, under the guise of Sirius Dieke, used it to capture Maria Campbell. It then returned in Season 2 when the mysterious Sarah used it to manipulate Thomas Coleman and Sora. To Sarah's great surprise, Katarina demonstrated an affinity for this dark art when she tamed the dark magic dog, Spot.
Katarina still had Spot with her when Season 2 of Villainess concluded, and it's not unthinkable that she might start using dark magic -- or at least manipulate the magic of other characters. Fortunately, she now has the resources of the Department of Magic as a reference in case anything goes wrong.
What Will Katarina's Foster Brother Keith Do Next?
Keith Claes, who was adopted into the Claes household as a boy, has developed even stronger feelings for his foster sister than ever before. Keith loves Katarina not only as his sister but as a young woman, and can no longer hide it. No longer intimidated by Geordo as a love rival, he had a few intimate moments with Katarina after she helped rescue him -- including kissing her and openly professing his love.
Although the harem's other members intervened soon after, it's clear that Keith is a forerunner in the harem race along with Geordo. Keith's open love for Katarina is sure to reshape his relationship to everyone -- most of all Katarina herself -- and it's anyone's guess how that will turn out when My Next Life as a Villainess continues.
