My Hero Academia features an impressive cast of colorful and memorable characters, and that includes the new #1 pro hero, the flaming Endeavor, or Todoroki Enji. For years, Endeavor was the #2 hero who yearned to surpass his rival All Might, and now he is leading the charge against a terrifying wave of crime and villainy across Japan.
Endeavor isn't terribly popular, but he is a powerful, smart and efficient hero who knows how to get the job done, even if his people skills are somewhat lacking. His personality can be accurately measured with the MBTI personality type test, and the results may shed some light on what makes Todoroki Enji who he is, both for good and for ill.
Endeavor's MBTI Personality Type: ISTJ-A, The Logistician
The Logistician is one of the most practical and work-oriented MBTI types along with the Architect type, and while Logisticians thrive in modern office settings or data-driven jobs, a Logistician can still do well in other fields, such as the realm of pro heroes. This personality type's code is ISTJ, or Introverted Observant Thinking Judging, describing a person who is hard-working and reliable at the expense of flexibility and a warm, charismatic personality.
Logisticians like Endeavor are focused on the world around them, constantly absorbing and processing data so they can get the job done and produce practical results. This makes them roughly similar to the INTJ Architect, except Architects are more flexible and concern themselves with future possibilities, while ISTJ Logisticians are more comfortable dealing with charts, hard data and concrete evidence. They care about what is, not what could be.
ISTJ people like Endeavor are known for their efficiency, time management skills, goal-oriented thinking and fondness for challenges, and they have little patience for daydreaming or distractions. They also tend to have an independent mindset like their INTJ cousins and tend to get the job done their own way. However, ISTJs might still work well in a team if everyone else shares their values of efficiency and workplace integrity, so they aren't total loners. ISTJs lack the leadership skills of Executives or Campaigners, but they can still lead a team effectively if everyone is working hard toward the same goal. Still, the Logistician leader may lack the powerful charisma of Executives and Campaigners, so they will likely earn people's loyalty by setting a good example rather than delivering a flowery speech.
Logisticians are praised for their excellent work ethic and practicality, not to mention their impeccable honesty, fact-driven thinking style and strong sense of responsibility and duty. For an ISTJ, the job means everything, and they take pride in their accomplishments. All this makes them reliable co-workers and managers. On the downside, Logisticians are notoriously stubborn and by-the-book, not to mention blunt and insensitive, which can make them overbearing or even tyrannical if the workplace calls for some flexibility, change and outside-the-box thinking. Logisticians don't like seeing their carefully-crafted systems swept away and replaced by something new.
Endeavor As A Logistician In My Hero Academia
In his first few appearances, Endeavor didn't show much of his ISTJ side, but over time, My Hero Academia revealed what a Logistician he really is. To begin with, Endeavor was a cruel Logistician in the Todoroki household, valuing efficiency, results and discipline above all else while using his Quirk marriage to produce a worthy heir. He had a calculated approach to his family and cared only for concrete results: a child who could surpass All Might with a tailor-made combination of Quirks. While Logisticians can easily make fine parents, Endeavor showed what a brutal ISTJ parent can look like, and his whole family paid the price for it.
On a more positive note, Endeavor is stern but practical in his heroic career, and he focuses entirely on the job at hand while not getting caught up in gossip, vanity or tabloids, as opposed to the playful Mt. Lady or the charismatic All Might. A true ISTJ lets their work and results speak for them, and that's how Endeavor established himself as the no-nonsense #2 hero. In Season 5, Endeavor's son Shoto, Izuku and Katsuki Bakugo all interned with him, and the three boys learned a lot. Endeavor may have lacked Gran Torino's intuition and All Might's paternal warmth, but he made up for it with his sharp, practical mind and efficient lessons, including the idea of parallel processing, which Izuku immediately took to heart.
On top of that, Endeavor runs a large hero agency like a well-oiled machine, and only a Logistician or Executive could pull that off. Finally, Enji carefully studied that Meta Liberation Army book, Logistician style, and cracked the code that Hawks had hidden in it. Armed with that knowledge, Endeavor was ready to take the fight to the villains at last.
