Moon Knight’s Oscar Isaac Doesn’t Mind Fans Calling Him ‘Daddy’

Moon Knight is the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe show to hit Disney+ and has received a wealth of praise from fans, some of which includes some questionable nicknames aimed at lead actor, Oscar Isaac. The actor himself appears to enjoy the nickname.

Isaac was informed that some fans like to affectionately call him "daddy." When asked how he felt about this, Isaac told ET Today, "I didn't know the fans called me 'daddy.' But that's okay. They can call me 'daddy' if they want to. I don't mind."

Moon Knight sees Isaac play Steven Grant, a mild-mannered museum gift shop worker with dissociative identity disorder (DID). Grant suffers from unexplained blackouts that he eventually discovers are the result of a different alter taking control. One such alter is Marc Spector, an ex-mercenary who made a deal with the Egyptian god of the moon, Khonshu, to be his avatar on Earth.

The differences between Steven and Marc are never more evident than when they are confronted with danger. Marc is trained and skilled in combat whereas Marc is understandably more frightened. This is also seen in how the pair both manifest their suit when calling on Khonshu's power. Marc's Moon Knight suit is typical of a superhero whereas Steven manifests something more dapper for the superhero alter known as Mr. Knight. According to series director Mohamed Diab, those differences were intentional. "That's why Steven who's completely away from the superhero world, his cool thing is when they tell him to summon the suit, it's a suit. It's an almost Armani suit," Diab explained. "I love how different it is from everything that we saw before in any superhero."

On top of the power of Khonshu, Grant also discovered pieces of Spector's other life. In Episode 1, Steven found a hidden cell phone in his apartment that had several missed calls from 'Layla.' When the contact calls again, Steven discovers that Layla is the wife of Marc Spector and is unaware of his DID. "When Layla comes into [Steven's] life and seems like the only person that can help him, his life suddenly starts to both fall apart and light up, because he has someone and she's saying that they're supposed to be married, but she's mistaken him for someone else," Isaac explained.

Unlike many MCU actors, Isaac isn't contracted to Marvel beyond the first season of Moon Knight. Despite this, Diab thinks the character will become an MCU mainstay. "So what I'm absolutely sure of is that Moon Knight is staying, staying for a long time, in my opinion. That's just a prediction," he said.

New episodes of Moon Knight premiere on Disney+ every Wednesday.
