Mobile Suit Gundam: 10 Hilarious Memes That Only Real Fans Will Appreciate

Mobile Suit Gundam has been around for over 40 years. There are a bunch of series in the franchise, and all of them have their own specific fanbases. On top of that, they all have their particular in-jokes.

There are memes everywhere about Gundam, including ones making fun of Transformers, gags about which characters were fighting Titans first (Eren or Kamille), and many jokes about the many, many looks that Char Aznable has worn over the years and throughout the series. Here are 10 of the funniest Mobile Suit Gundam memes that will make every fan laugh.

10 Me When I Wake Up In The Morning

Everybody knows that feeling in the morning when they start to get out of bed and everything feels terrible and they just want to sleep for another five hours. This meme really plays up that feeling.

Plus, it’s one of the weird qualities about the Gundam series, as all of the characters are always hyper-aware of the fact that they could die at any second. Many even expect certain battles to be their last.

9 Blame This On The Misfortune Of Your Birth

Garma is one of the most tragic figures in Mobile Suit Gundam. He comes from a family of strong, powerful people who all have specific skills and all of whom look down on him (with the exception of his dad), and he’s constantly trying to prove himself to his siblings.

Char is the first person who makes him feel like he’s worth something. Char is also the one who betrays him and is directly responsible for his death, all because Garma is a member of the Zabi family that Char thinks is responsible for killing his dad.

8 Garma: *Dies*

As mentioned above, Garma dies, pretty climactically, as Char delivers his famous line: “Blame this on the misfortune of your birth.” And his crappy older brother, Gihren, always looking for reasons to grab even more power and trick the Zeon citizens into believing in his messed-up plans, immediately uses Garma's death as a means of propaganda, talking about how the Federation killed Zeon’s favorite son.

It’s extra ironic since Char is actually the one who killed him, and he technically works for Zeon.

7 Sieg Zeon

Amuro Ray cannot deal with Char Aznable. He’s obsessed with him because Char is just about the only person who Amuro can’t easily defeat when in a Mobile Suit.

Char doesn’t care quite as much about Amuro, outside of some professional curiosity, and spends a whole lot of time mocking his skills and how young he is. Passing him a note that says, “Sieg Zeon,” would definitely annoy Amuro, who’s pretty prone to temper tantrums anyway.

6 That’s My Purse! I Don’t Know You!

It’s safe to say everyone loves a good King of the Hill meme. This combines probably the most memorable scene in King of the Hill with one of the more memorable scenes in Mobile Suit Gundam, both of which seem to imply someone getting kicked in the crotch.

In King of the Hill, Hank actually gets kicked in the crotch by Bobby, who has been practicing self-defense strategies with his mom.

5 The Statue They Said Not To Worry About

There’s something of a rivalry between the Gundam and Transformers fandoms. Both of them originated in Japan and have a big toy component. Gundam is a little bit older and much more beloved in Japan, as can be seen by these two statues in Tokyo, which are very different in size.

The Unicorn Gundam Statue is a life-size version of the Gundam, where the Bumblebee statue is…noticeably smaller.

4 You Can’t Betray Someone You Were Never Loyal To

Char Aznable spends pretty much all of his time betraying people. He is cunning, and he has a very specific plan in mind as he tries to get vengeance on the Zabi family for the likely assassination of his father. He gets in close with the Zabis, even becoming Garma’s closest friend, so it makes sense that he would probably see it as a betrayal that he actually makes sure that Garma gets killed in action.

Still, Char probably doesn’t see any of this as betrayal, since it was all a means to an end, and he certainly never felt loyalty to anybody in the family.

3 You Guys Always Act Like You’re Better Than Me

There’s a lot of infighting in the Gundam fandom about which series are the best. A lot of people believe the older series are better because they are the originals.

Mobile Suit Gundam, Mobile Suit Zeta, and Mobile Suit Double Zeta also all take place in the Universal Century, which is the original Gundam timeline, and they are the first three Mobile Suit Gundam television series. Iron-Blooded Orphans is a spin-off series that takes place in a different continuity.

2 Feeling Cute LOL

Bright Noa has a pretty bad track record for how he handles Amuro Ray. He slaps him a lot. Amuro might deserve some discipline since he is constantly throwing temper tantrums, refusing to do his job, and putting everyone in danger, but it’s probably not a good look for a commanding officer to be constantly slapping one of his subordinates.

Still, if Bright looks cute, he might as well.

1 Notice Me, Senpai

The “I Hope Senpai Will Notice Me” meme never gets old with anime fans. It’s often seen in romance or slice of life anime, with a girl trying to get the attention of an older boy that she likes.

It’s really funny in this case since it’s an already amusing scene from Mobile Suit Gundam, where the White Suit is looking up over a ridge almost like he is standing on his toes. It’s funny without the text, but with it, it adds a whole new dimension to the joke.
