Miraculous Ladybug: How Each (Current) Miraculous Holder Was Chosen

Set in Paris, Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is a superhero-based anime series. Its narrative focuses on Marinette Dupain-Cheng and Adrien Agreste, two Parisian teenagers who can transform into the animal-themed superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir to defeat supervillains and protect the city. The series was produced by Zagtoon and Method Animation in association with Toei Animation, and is currently airing its fourth season.

Marinette and Adrien are in possession of mystical jewelry known as Miraculous, which grants unique superpowers to its user. As Miraculous grips its viewers with another action-packed season, several more Miraculous holders have been revealed. Here are all the current Miraculous holders and the circumstances under which they acquired their Miraculous.

Marinette Dupain-Cheng - Ladybug

As the first of the modern-day Miraculous keepers, Marinette was entrusted with the Ladybug Miraculous. When rushing toward school, Marinette notices an elderly man in danger and immediately saves him. Unbeknownst to her, the man is Master Fu, the keeper of the magical objects called the Miraculous.

Also without her knowledge, he has prepared this test for Marinette to see if she possesses the necessary qualities to become a superhero. Since Marinette saves him, Master Fu offers her the Ladybug Miraculous, which is a pair of earrings.

Adrien Agreste - Cat Noir

Miraculous: Cat Noir’s Kwami Hides an Apocalyptic Secret

Chosen second to own a Miraculous, Adrien is given the responsibility of the Cat Miraculous. Similar to Marinette, even though he has been homeschooled for most of his life, Adrien decides to start attending school. Near the entrance, he notices an elderly man in need of assistance and offers to help him. Again unknown to him at the time, the man is Master Fu. Adrien undergoes the same test of worthiness and because of his kind gesture, Master Fu decides to give him the Cat Miraculous, which is a black ring.

Chloé Bourgeois/Zoé Lee - Queen Bee/Vesperia

Currently, the Bee Miraculous has been in the possession of Zoé Lee, but previously belonged to Chloé Bourgeois. The Bee Miraculous was originally intended to be given to Alya Césaire, but in "Style Queen", after Ladybug lost the Bee Miraculous, Chloé found it and became Queen Bee. She returned for tougher fights during seasons two and three, but as of "Miraculer", Ladybug will no longer call upon Chloé to be Queen Bee due to reckless behavior that risks her secret identity becoming public knowledge.

Zoé Lee, Chloé sister, has since become the indefinite bee-themed superhero. In "Queen Banana", after Chloé is akumatized into the titular villain, Zoé receives the Bee Miraculous from Ladybug. Rather than assume the identity of Queen Bee, Zoé becomes Vesperia, a bee/wasp-themed superhero who helps Ladybug and Cat Noir in Season 4 and beyond.

Alya Césaire - Rena Rouge/Rena Furtive

After the Bee Miraculous blunder with Marinette, Alya Césaire was entrusted with the Fox Miraculous. Alya is still chosen by Ladybug to be Rena Rouge from time to time, but she always gives back the Fox Miraculous when the job is done. As of the episode "Optigami," Alya becomes the permanent holder of the Fox Miraculous - the first Miraculous that Marinette has permanently assigned. She also becomes Marinette's presumptive successor for the ownership of the Miracle Box.

Nino Lahiffe - Carapace

Following in Master Fu's footsteps, Nino claims ownership of the Turtle Miraculous, which is a bracelet. In the episode "Anansi," after Alya Césaire and Cat Noir are captured, Nino receives the Turtle Miraculous from Ladybug. Nino becomes Carapace, a turtle-themed superhero who assists Ladybug and Cat Noir during particularly difficult missions from Season 2 onward. Nino has since revealed to Adrien that he is Carapace.

Nathalie Sancoeur - Mayura

Miraculous Ladybug Nathalie

Previously used by Gabriel Agreste's wife Emilie, the Peacock Miraculous now belongs to Gabriel, aka Hawkmoth, who uses it to transform into Shadow Moth or occasionally lends it to Nathalie Sancoeur, his assistant, who becomes Mayura. Mayura makes her debut in the 25th episode of season two. She takes the Peacock Miraculous (a brooch) and transforms herself into Mayura in order to help Hawk Moth. She then helps him escape the heroes. Later, a weak Nathalie is shown with the Peacock Miraculous alongside Gabriel Agreste.

Gabriel Agreste - Hawkmoth

As the main antagonist in Miraculous, Gabriel Agreste wields the Butterfly Miraculous (also known as the Moth Miraculous) for malicious purposes. Similar to the Peacock Miraculous, it is a locket brooch. 172 years ago, Master Fu made a grave mistake that resulted in not only the destruction of the temple, but also in the loss of the Butterfly and the Peacock Miraculous. At some recent time, Nathalie found the Butterfly Miraculous and gave it to Gabriel, who took them with him back to Paris.

Lê Chiến Kim - King Monkey

One of the more recent choices in Miraculous, Lê Chiến Kim was selected to utilize the Monkey Miraculous. In "Party Crasher," in order to defeat the titular villain who has captured Ladybug and her team, Kim receives the Monkey Miraculous from Master Fu.

Max Kanté - Pegasus

Chosen to use the Horse Miraculous, Max is another recently appointed Miraculous holder. In "Startrain", Max receives the Horse Miraculous chronologically for the first time when his mother gets akumatized into the titular villain. During another episode, titled "Party Crasher", Master Fu lends Max the Horse Miraculous to help defeat the titular akumatized villain.

Luka Couffaine - Viperion

An occasional wearer, Luke Couffaine has been entrusted with the Snake Miraculous. In "Desperada", after Adrien Agreste gives up being Aspik for not being able to help Ladybug against the titular villain, she gives Luka the Snake Miraculous. Following the events of "Wishmaker", the two main heroes are unaware that Luka knows who they are.

Alix Kubdel - Bunnyx

During Season 3 of Miraculous, Alix is entrusted with the Rabbit Miraculous, but its exact timeline can be confusing. In "Timetagger," when Alix is given the Miraculous, a hologram appears from inside the pocket watch. The person introduces herself as a superhero from the future named Bunnyx, who is part of a team formed by the Ladybug and Cat Noir of the future. This mysterious hero is Alix from the future, who informs her that the family heirloom she holds (the pocket watch) was the Rabbit Miraculous all along.

Kagami Tsurugi - Ryuko

The Dragon Miraculous is a beaded choker that was given to Kagami. In "Ikari Gozen", after she is imprisoned, Ladybug gives Kagami the Dragon Miraculous in order to both free her and defeat Ikari Gozen.

Rose Lavillant - Pigella

Used by Rose, the Pig Miraculous is a pearl anklet. In the Miraculous episode "Guiltrip," Ladybug gives the Pig Miraculous to Rose to help defeat her friend Juleka, who has once more been transformed by Hawk Moth into Reflekta.

Jessica Keynes - Eagle

The Eagle Miraculous is a talon pendant currently owned by Jessica Keynes. After it was recovered from Miraclonizer, Jessica used it to free the American superheroes. Ladybug allowed her to keep the Eagle Miraculous, believing it would be in good hands.

Mylène Haprèle - Polymouse

Previously seen combined with the Ladybug Miraculous to create Multimouse, the Mouse Miraculous is used by Mylène Haprèle. In the episode "Mega Leech," in order to defeat Malediktator and his titular sentimonster, Mylène receives the Mouse Miraculous from Ladybug. When the situation calls for it, the pendant necklace is only temporarily lent to Mylène.

These are all the known Miraculous holders thus far, but many more are destined to be revealed in upcoming episodes as the popular series continues.
