Brandon Routh will lead the voice cast of Netflix's upcoming animated series based on Magic: The Gathering.
The Legends of Tomorrow star will voice the heroic Planeswalker named Gideon Jura. Routh also released a Twitter video announcing his latest role, with Wizards of the Coast adding a character design sheet of Gideon. "Greeting Magic fans! I'm Brandon Routh, and I play Gideon in the upcoming Magic: The Gathering animated series coming to Netflix in 2022," Routh said. "For those of you who don't know, Gideon is known for being the strong guy who always stands up for what's right, just, and isn't afraid to fight. Now I understand why they hired me for this."

Routh also added how he is a huge fan of Magic: The Gathering, having played it since he was 16-years-old. He also pointed out how this isn't the first time he's lent his voice to a Magic character, having previously appeared in Magic, MTG Arena.
Production on the Netflix animated series is already underway. Magic: The Gathering will introduce all-new characters, along with familiar and well-known Planeswalkers. The goal with this was to make the series accessible to old and new fans alike.
Acclaimed fantasy author Django Wexler is publishing a new novel that will act as a prequel alongside the launch of the Netflix series, providing more context to readers and viewers. The novel follows the bond between Gideon Jura and Jace Beleren.
Anthony and Joe Russo recently exited Magic: The Gathering, with Jeff Kline and Steve Melching joining as executive producers.
