Komi Can’t Communicate Season 2 Trailer Introduces 4 New Characters

Komi Can't Communicate released a new trailer for its upcoming second season.

The new preview introduces several new characters who will be joining Komi's constantly growing circle of new friends, including Shisuto Naruse, a narcissistic student who is smitten with Shoko, and Chushaku Kometani, a new classmate who compulsively takes notes on everything. The season will also introduce two new female students, Ayami Sasaski and Mikumi Kato, who will accompany Komi on a field trip. The trailer also shows more clips of Makoto Katai, a shy delinquent who was previously introduced in an earlier preview for the second season. The clips also tease more developments in the relationship between Komi and the show's male lead, Hitohito Tadano.

New casting announcements were also made alongside the reveal of the new characters: narcissistic Naruse will be played by Katsuyuki Miura, who previously starred in SD Gundam World Heroes and the musical anime Rhapsody. Shotaro Uzawa will portray Chushaku, while Food Wars: Shogeki No Shoma's Minami Takahashi will portray Ayami and The Hidden Dungeon Only I Can Enter's Fumiko Uchimura will portray Mikumi. The rest of the cast and crew from the first season will all reprise their roles for the show's continuation.

Komi Can't Communicate tells the story of Shoko Komi, an elegant and pretty young woman who never talks to her classmates. The other students at her high school school are intimidated by her looks and seemingly cold attitude, but things change one day after she meets Hitohito Tadano, a thoroughly average young man who has done his best to not stand out. Tadano discovers that Komi isn't intentionally aloof, but rather, she is devastatingly shy, and secretly longs to make more friends. Tadano dedicates himself to helping his socially-awkward new friend achieve her goal of making 100 friends before the end of high school, though the pair soon discover that they might be the most normal people at their school.

The second season is scheduled to premiere in Japan on April 6. The series has been a surprise hit for Netflix, who distributes the show internationally as a streaming exclusive for its platform. The streaming giant has yet to confirm when the second season will be available on its service and currently still lists the second season with a nebulous 2022 premiere window. The first season of the show began streaming on Netflix several weeks after its premiere on Japanese TV, with new episodes added weekly.

The manga has been officially localized into English and is distributed in North America by VIZ Media. The complete first season is now available for streaming on Netflix.
