Komi Can’t Communicate Reveals New Trailer, Weekly Netflix Release

A new trailer for the upcoming anime Komi Can't Communicate has dropped.

Set to the show's opening theme "Cinderella" by Cidergirl (Fire Force, 7 Seeds), the trailer showcases the series' colorful and varied cast of characters and  shines the spotlight on Komi, its socially awkward and taciturn heroine, as well as her first friend and love interest Tadano. The trailer also confirms that the series will stream exclusively on Netflix from Oct. 7 onward, a day after the series' Oct. 6 TV Aichi premiere. Plans for the series' international release on the platform have not been officially disclosed as of yet.

The upcoming anime stars voice actors Aoi Koga (Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the Movie: Mugen Train), Gakuto Kajiwara (Black Clover, Fire Force) and Rie Murakawa (Hinamatsuri, Re:Zero) as series leads Shōko Komi, Hitohito Tadano and Najimi Osana respectively. Kazuki Kawagoe (Beyblade Burst episode director) will direct the series, with Ayumu Watanabe (After the Rain, Children of the Sea, Major 2nd) serving as the chief director. Deko Akao (Noragami, Snow White with the Red Hair) is in charge of series composition, and Atsuko Nakajima (Ranma 1/2, Tokyo Ghoul:re) is in charge of character design. OLM, the studio behind Pokemon, Berserk and Odd Taxi, will produce the animation for the show.

Since the manga's original release in 2016, Komi Can't Communicate has become an incredibly popular short-form manga, with over 5 million copies sold. The series has been compiled into 22 volumes as of August, and VIZ Media has published an English translation of the series for North American audiences since 2019. Komi Can't Communicate was previously adapted into a live-action TV drama ahead of the anime, and a fanbook featuring a Q&A with series' author Tomohito Oda is scheduled to release this October.

Komi Can't Communicate follows the comedic adventures of its titular protagonist Komi, a beautiful and quiet high school girl who quickly gains the attention of her new classmates, as well as the reputation of being an unapproachable beauty. However, Komi is actually not aloof, but intensely socially anxious, and that social anxiety prevents her from interacting with and befriending her classmates like she wants to. When she and the unnoticeable wallflower Hitohito Tadano find themselves alone together in their classroom one day, they somehow become friends, and Tadano agrees to help Komi achieve her goal of making one hundred friends. The two become determined to overcome their social awkwardness and to befriend every single one of their quirky and unusual classmates.
