Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 18 Promo Video Delves into Gojo and Geto’s History

A video trailer for the 18th collected volume of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga has been released.

The slick new promo was revealed on the official Weekly Shonen Jump YouTube channel. The motion-comic styled video looks back at the past of the powerful sorcerer Satoru Gojo and the vengeful Suguru Geto, who serves as the primary antagonist in the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 prequel movie and manga, and also reappears in the story later to cause even more problems for the series' main hero, Yuji Itadori. Volume 18 is scheduled to be released in Japan on Dec. 18. An English release for the volume has not yet been announced, as the localized version of the manga is currently only up to Vol. 14, which will be released in North America on Feb. 1.

Fans who want to see more of Gojo and Geto's past in an animated form should also check out the latest trailer for the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie. The trailer debuted at this year's Jump Festa on Dec. 18 and showcases numerous clips from the movie's impeccably animated and choreographed fights. While the movie is centered primarily on the story of Yuta Okkotsu and the spirit of his childhood sweetheart, Rika, who has been transformed into a monstrous Curse, the movie will also explore the past history of Gojo and Geto. The movie is set before Yuji consumes Sukuna's cursed finger, so while the series' central protagonist doesn't appear in the film, several of his future Jujutsu High classmates do, including Maki Zenin and Panda.

If that still isn't enough Gojo for you, new art of the arrogant sorcerer was also recently released by MAPPA, the animation studio behind the Jujutsu Kaisen anime series. The art, which depicts Gojo enjoying some snacks and drinks with his students, was released on Dec. 7, the character's 32nd birthday.

The release of the prequel movie and Volume 18 of the manga will cap off a banner year for Gege Akutami's acclaimed shonen series. The series concluded the first season of its anime adaptation earlier this year, when the series received widespread praise for its intense fight animation and well-written characters. Akutami's original manga experienced a substantial boost in popularity, becoming the best-selling manga of the year in Japan with over 30 million copies sold in the last 12 months alone. Jujutsu Kaisen now sits at a total worldwide circulation of over 60 million copies, outperforming many of its older Shonen Jump peers, such as Haikyuu!! and My Hero Academia.

The Jujutsu Kaisen manga is distributed in North America by VIZ Media. The first season of the anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation.
