Jujutsu Kaisen: Itadori’s Reunion With Fushiguro & Kugisaki Reveals a Threat From Within

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Episode 14 of Jujutsu Kaisen, "Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event - Group Battle 0," now streaming on Crunchyroll.

After Jujutsu Kaisen's Itadori suffered an early death, his swift resurrection was kept secret from his fellow Jujutsu Tech students and the community's elder leaders. While it may not have been the emotional return that Itadori was hoping for, it's refreshing to see our central trio reunite for the upcoming Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event.

Still, Itadori's shock return puts an immediate target on his back from the Kyoto school's Principal Gakuganji, who informs his students that they are to treat Sukuna's vessel as a Curse and kill him. However, a darker threat looms as Satoru Gojou discusses the likelihood of someone within Jujutsu Tech working with the Cursed Spirits.

Itadori, Fushiguro & Kugisaki Reunited

Since Itadori was only recently introduced to the Jujutsu world, he was undeniably behind Fushiguro and Kugisaki in experience. However, his time away put Itadori through a rigorous gauntlet -- with profound emotional ramifications tacked on, too -- that has, in a way, brought him up to speed with his classmates. Now more of a wildcard since everyone is in the dark about Itadori's capabilities, the Tokyo school finds itself with a unique advantage. Plus, Fushiguro vouching for Itadori's impressive physical strength puts him in good stead.

Carried away with the excitement of seeing his friends again and Gojou's antics, the reunion feels lackluster to Itadori but also comes across as earnest relief that he's alive. While frustrated they were kept out of the loop, Fushiguro and Kugisaki welcome him back in ways that suit them perfectly. Skipping the traditional pleasantries also makes way for the Exchange Event to take center stage as a tournament-style arc.

A Jujutsu Tech Traitor

After a brief meeting between the Tokyo and Kyoto school members, each team is sent to discuss strategy before the first group battle event. During Kyoto's meeting, Principal Gakuganji instructs his students to kill Itadori. Most of them appear to approve of the plan -- indicating the danger Sukuna poses as a motive and the ability to classify Itadori as not human since he's the King of Curses vessel as reason enough.

Meanwhile, Gojou meets with Iori Utahime -- the Kyoto School leader -- to discuss his theory. Citing the recent uptick in Special-Grade Curses that seem to be rallying around a common goal, Gojou believes someone from Jujutsu Tech is working with a Curse user or the Cursed Spirits. Gojou doesn't name any potential suspects but trusts Utahime to keep an eye on the Kyoto side, hoping to find out who the traitor among them is.

The Cursed Spirits' Sukuna Plan

Gojou may very well be correct in his assumption, but there may not be enough time to discover who the traitor is before the Cursed Spirits make their next move. As Mahito and Jougo discuss their intention to collect all of Sukuna's fingers and offer them to the King of Curses, the Cursed Spirits team now unanimously agree to follow Getou's plan of using the Prison Realm to trap Gojou. However, their scheme's next stage requires them to first retrieve the six fingers currently at Jujutsu Tech.

From reunions to traitors to potential ambushes, the Kyoto Sister School Exchange Event gears up to be a massive chance for Jujutsu Kaisen to show off it's most powerful sorcerers. As Itadori looks to make an immediate impact, there is a chance we could see more of Fushiguro's mysterious potential after it's revealed he comes from the same famous Zenin bloodline as Maki and Mai.
