Jujutsu Kaisen 0’s Sorcerers Prepare for Battle in Jaw-Dropping New Poster

A new poster for the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen prequel movie has been released.

The poster shows Jujutsu Kaisen 0's main character, Yuta Okkutsu, readying his sword alongside his Curse, which was born from the spirit of his late childhood friend, Rikka. Also depicted getting ready for the battle is fan-favorite Jujutsu sorcerer Satoru Gojo, alongside the Jujutsu High students Maki Zenin and Panda. The series' heroes stand in front of Suguru Geto, the arrogant curse user who will serve as the prequel story's primary antagonist.

The new movie is based on a manga that was published by series creator Gege Akutami in 2017, which was originally entitled Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. The short miniseries introduced the world, concepts, and many of the characters that would later be expanded upon in Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen manga, which was first released about a year after Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School was completed. Once Jujutsu Kaisen became a hit, Akutami's original miniseries was retroactively renamed Jujutsu Kaisen 0 to reflect its connection to the main series.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 tells the story of Yuta Okkutsu, a young man who once promised his childhood friend, Rikka Orimoto, that he would marry her someday. Unfortunately for Yuta, Rikka passed away at a young age and her spirit has now transformed into a jealous and overprotective Curse, a dangerous spirit that violently attacks anyone who gets close to Yuta. Not wanting anyone else to get hurt, Yuta goes into a self-imposed exile, until he meets a man named Satoru Gojo. The jujutsu sorcerer brings Yuta to Jujutsu High, where he learns that he can use the power of Rikka's Curse to protect others from the same fate.

The movie is currently in production at animation studio MAPPA, who animated the Jujutsu Kaisen TV series and has also worked on a number of other popular anime franchises, including the final season of Attack on Titan, which will begin airing its final episodes next January, and the upcoming anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto's award-winning manga Chainsaw Man. Sunghoo Park, who directed the first season of the anime, will also return to direct the film. Park previously worked on Yuri on Ice and The God of High School.

Jujutsu Kaisen 0 will premiere in Japan on Dec. 24. An international release for the movie has not yet been announced, but the original anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll and was also recently added to Funimation's streaming service.
