Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Figure Might be World’s Costliest Curse

Preorders have opened up for an impressively sized and detailed statue depicting Jujutsu Kaisen's Yuta Okkotsu and Rika, but this Curse comes at a cost.

The new statue is produced by FuRyu, a premium scale figure company that has built up a reputation for creating expensive but high quality collectibles. FuRyu's figure features a seven-inch tall depiction of Yuta with his katana in hand. The reluctant hero is dwarfed by Rika, shown here in her monstrous Cursed form, which is over a foot tall. The statue comes with a dark colored base that is meant to replicate the look of cursed energy flowing out of the sorcerer and his Curse. Preorders for the figure will be open from now until March. FuRyu's official website lists the figure with a suggested Japanese retail price of ¥59,950 (about $520 USD,) with many international retailers, including Big Bad Toy Store, listing the pricey collectible at just over $600 USD. The figure is expected to ship in December of 2022.

While he has so far only been glimpsed in the popular Jujutsu Kaisen TV anime series, Yuta Okkotsu serves as the main protagonist of the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 manga and movie. The prequel story was originally published in 2017 under the title Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School. This earlier work from creator Gege Akutami was the first story set in the world of Jujutsu Kaisen, and introduced many of the characters and themes that would later reappear in the main series, which began publication about a year after Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School was completed.

Set about a year before Yuji Itadori consumed Sukuna's finger and was introduced to the world of Curses, the prequel tells the story of Yuta, a young man who is haunted by the spirit of his childhood sweetheart, Rika. Rika's soul has been transformed into a dangerous and violent monster known as a Curse, and Yuta is subsequently forced into a life of isolation in order to protect others from her wrath. Yuta's life changes, however, when he meets the sorcerer Satoru Gojo and is brought to the mysterious Jujutsu High School.

The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie is currently raking in the yen at the Japanese box office. The prequel film opened on Dec. 24 and had the second-best opening weekend in Japanese history, taking in over 2.69 billion yen (approximately $23.5 million USD) in its first three days in theaters. The movie has since earned 5.78 billion yen (about $50.7 million USD) and is on track to outperform Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0: Thrice Upon A Time, which was Japan's highest grossing film in 2021. An international release for Jujutsu Kaisen 0 has yet to be announced.
