Jojo's Bizarre Adventure has become more popular than ever in the past decade, thanks in part to its monstrously successful anime adaptation. The fittingly bizarre shonen series follows a rather abnormal family throughout the generations as each successive "Jojo" faces new paranormal threats in a colorful, but often violent, world. With five of the manga's sagas already adapted to anime, Jojo will soon have Part 6: Stone Ocean bring new life to the vibrant franchise.
Stone Ocean will focus on Jotaro Kujo's daughter, Jolyne Cujoh, and the conspiracy to kill her in prison. The show is still a few months away, but there's plenty of info to get fans hyped for how the anime will continue. Here's what we know so far about Stone Ocean's plot, cast and characters, as well as when the show will be dropping on streaming services and television.
The Plot of Stone Ocean
Stone Ocean is the fifth season of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, but it adapts the sixth story arc of the manga. The star is Jolyne Cujoh, the current "Jojo" and the daughter of Jotaro Kujo. She's arrested in 2011 and sent to the Green Dolphin Street Prison in Florida, where her precarious life becomes even more endangered. Armed with a mysterious pendant that gives her equally mysterious power, she's informed by her father Jotaro that she was framed by a student of their family's eternal rival, Dio. Now marked for death in jail, she has to escape and survive.
Stone Ocean's Trailer
The recently released trailer for the series starts off by showing the apparent murder that lands Jolyne in the slammer. From there, the dark new reality facing her in the grueling halls of the jail are showcased in the franchise's signature style, making everything as colorful as it is dark. As she discovers the strange pendant, she's informed of its use by none other than her old man, Jotaro Kujo.
From there, a villainous plot involving Dio is revealed, as Jolyne's Stand is also seen for the first time. This leads to a brief glimpse of action before the trailer comes to a close, fading to the Netflix logo and giving a look at the planned release date.
News to Know About Stone Ocean
The "Stone Ocean" arc of the Jojo manga was first published all the way back in 2000, making its 2011 setting futuristic for the time. Running until 2003, it lasted for 17 volumes in total. Now, over 20 years after the story's publication started, it's receiving an animated adaptation.
The anime season is again handled by David Production, which was the studio behind the show's previous seasons. It was announced earlier this year as part of a livestream event celebrating the Jojo's Bizarre Adventure anime series. Egyptian-Japanese voice actress Fairouz Ai will voice Jolyne Cujoh, while Daisuke Ono reprises his role as Jotaro Kujo. Likewise, Mutsumi Tamura, Mariya Ise, Yuichiro Umehara, Daisuke Namikawa and Atsumi Tanezaki will voice Ermes Costello, the Foo Fighters, Weather Reporter, Narciso Anasui and Emporio Alnino, respectively.
Release Date for Stone Ocean
The release date for Stone Ocean is still a good few months away, especially for those who don't have Netflix. It's currently planned to release on Netflix this December, though an exact date within the month hasn't been given yet.
Likewise, it will also be aired on Japanese television on Tokyo MX, BS11 and MBS a month later in January, though this likely also depends on whether or not the preceding December release date happens on Netflix.
