JoJo's Bizarre Adventure follows the legacy of the Joestar family. In Part 4: Diamond is Unbreakable, the hero is Josuke Higashikata, who grew up with his mother and her husband but never knew his biological dad, Joseph Joestar. When he finally met the elderly Joseph, father and son had a truly bizarre adventure together, and their relationship was strengthened as a result.
Unlikely Parents
Josuke was dealing with heartbreak over his stepfather's death when he first met his Joseph for the first time. Back in the early 1980s, Josuke scandalously cheated on his wife Suzie Q and fathered Josuke with Tomoko Higashikata while married to Suzie Q, and fathered Josuke Higashikata with her. However, Joseph was more committed to his daughter Holly Joestar (Jotaro's mother), and Josuke grew up merely imagining what his father is like. When Josuke finally met Joseph, he wasn't terribly impressed.
Joseph Joestar was 79 years old by now, and he seemed a bit out of it. Josuke thought little of his elderly father, but that started to change when Josuke and Joseph had their own bizarre adventure. They found an abandoned baby girl by the side of the road, and stranger yet, that infant was totally invisible. Joseph was alarmed at first, but soon adopted a more paternal air, determined to take care of this kid as best he could until more suitable foster parents could be found. In the meantime, Joseph needed baby supplies for the girl, and Josuke casually handed over his wallet and let Joseph go shopping alone.
Amusingly, Joseph spent Josuke's last dime on baby goods, far more than he needed, and Josuke wasn't pleased. The baby started turning other items invisible too, and its carriage went out of control. Josuke and Joseph had a heck of a time trying to keep up with this invisible troublemaker, but it was a chance for them to get closer, and Josuke saw firsthand how nurturing and kind his father really was.
Fond Good-Byes
After Yoshikage Kira the serial killer was defeated, Joseph had to take his leave and Jotaro Kujo went with him. Josuke bid his father a fond farewell as the boat was leaving Morioh Town's dock, but Josuke had one more trick up his sleeve. He had torn off a corner of a photograph in Joseph's wallet, and he used Crazy Diamond to repair the photo. That means dragging the photo (and the entire wallet with it) to Josuke through the air, and Josuke gleefully claimed Joseph's cash for himself. After all, Joseph had spent all of Josuke's money, and didn't every son need a decent allowance from his father? Josuke sure thought so, and Joseph was shocked speechless. He decided to take it in good stride, and there's no doubt he realized Josuke was a good kid after all.
Really, that was the kind of prankster thing Joseph would have done at Josuke's age, anyway. Father and son took care of a baby together, faced Morioh Town's terrifying Stands and proved that despite living apart for so long, they are two of a kind after all. Joseph was able to leave Morioh Town in good spirits, and Josuke felt like his family was whole again at last.
