Melbourne bred indie-electronic tastemaker Mild Minds, born Benjamin David, has officially bequeathed his sophomore studio album, GEMINI, via ODESZA‘s esteemed Foreign Family Collective. Featuring a total of nine innovative new dance tracks, the same number of recordings housed on David’s 2020-issued debut album, MOOD, GEMINI explores a plethora of electronic sub-genres while effecting an invigorating sonic consistency.
The brand new project opens with “I NEED U,” which combines trance-like synth patterns and future bass-reminiscent vocal sampling, layered atop intricate drum-and-bass percussion. “TEARDROPS,” on the other hand, explores tech-house drum sequences and stutter house synth programming. Still, the listening experience is not once derailed by anything that might be “out of place.” In revitalizing turn of the century club music through an emotional lens, the GRAMMY-nominated producer’s latest undertaking also capitalizes on two infectious joint efforts, “1 DAY 2 LATE,” featuring fellow Melbourne artist Juno Mamba, as well as edapollo-assisted “IN YOUR EYES.” “After years of navigating the pressures of the music industry, I was hesitant to step too far into the spotlight,” shares David in a press statement, adding,
“But taking the plunge into my own project—something I was often discouraged from pursuing—has been seriously transformative. Seeing it resonate has been incredibly fulfilling and given me a newfound confidence and freedom.”
Having kicked off the GEMINI tour on February 7th at The Atlantis in Washington, D.C., Mild Minds looks ahead to three dates in Canada before bringing his live show back to the US.
