Jellystone! Pits Yogi Against Huckleberry in an Amazing Anime Parody

A recent episode of Warner Bros.' Jellystone! features Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound battling their way through a send-up of the most common shonen anime cliches.

The tenth episode of Jellystone! saw the two classic Hanna-Barbera characters settle their differences through an "anime filter" that changed the show's art style and spoken language. The anime Yogi Bear and Huckleberry Hound, in addition to being two names that no one assumed would ever be used in the same sentence as the word "anime," are voiced by Japanese comedian Yoshi Amao and voice actor Gaku Space respectively. Amao has been a staple of the Japanese comedy scene for decades and has appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, while Gaku Space is best known for being the voice of the ninja-cyborg warrior Genji in Blizzard's Overwatch video game. The parody features many of the common tropes seen in shonen anime, from characters yelling out the name of their special attacks, to swords cutting objects without touching them. The clip also includes squeezes in what appears to be a quick Haikyuu!! reference.

Jellystone! premiered in July 2021 and features characters from several classic Hanna-Barbera cartoons, including Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Hound, Quickdraw McGraw and more. The series was developed by Harvey Beaks creator C.H. Greenblatt and features the voices of Jeff Bergman, Jim Conroy, Ron Funches, Grace Helbig, Thomas Lennon, Dana Snyder, Paul F. Tompkins and Lesley Nicol. Greenblatt also provides the voice of Yogi's side kick and bomb suspect Boo Boo.

The first 10-episode season of Jellystone! is available for streaming on HBO Max. A second season has been confirmed to be in development.
