The trailer also showcases many of the characters who will help or compete with the pair as they explore the labyrinth and seek to discover what is at the bottom of the massive dungeon. The first promotional artwork for show's new run of episodes says that the whole season will be focused on the Labyrinth Arc. The show will be broadcast on TV and on streaming services within Japan sometime during 2022.

Hideki Tachibana, who directed the previous three seasons of the anime, will reprise their role for the show's new season. Shakugan No Shana scriptwriter Hideki Shirane will also return to the series to serve as its script supervisor, a role they will share with the series' original writer and co-creator, Fujino Omori. Shigeki Kimoto, who also worked on the show's previous three seasons and also served as a director on A Certain Scientific Rail Gun, will provide character designs for the fourth season.

Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, often referred to as "DanMachi," an abbreviation of its Japanese title, tells the story of a mysterious labyrinth known as "Dungeon," and the countless adventurers who plumb its depths in the hopes of finding treasure or glory.  The series focuses on one particular adventuring guild, or "Familia," which is led by the goddess Hestia and her sole follower, a teenage adventurer named Bell who is gifted with a particularly powerful special ability.

The franchise originally began in 2013 with a light novel series created by writer Fujino Omori and illustrator Suzuhito Yasuda. The series has since become a hit with audiences around the world, spawning a manga adaptation that was also written by Omori and featured art by Kunieda, and several video games based on the series. An anime adaptation premiered in 2015 and was produced by J.C. Staff, the animation studio behind classic series such as Revolutionary Girl Utena and more recent hits, such as Netflix's video game rom-com Hi-Score Girl. After numerous delays related to the COVID-19 pandemic, the anime aired its third season in 2020. The series' first movie, entitled Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion, also premiered in 2020.

The anime series is available to stream from Netflix, Hulu, Crunchyroll and Hi-Dive. The original light novels and the manga adaptation are available in English from Yen Press.
