Hachiman & Yui Have a Sweet Time in My Teen Romanic Comedy SNAFU Climax

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Season 3, Episode 9 of My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, “A Whiff of that Fragrance Will Always Bring Memories of that Season,” now streaming on Crunchyroll.

Following the gravity of Episode 8, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU Climax returns with a slightly more lighthearted tone, though the fallout of last week’s episode still lingers on.

Komachi notices that something is bothering her brother and asks him if something is wrong. But Hachiman simply says he'll tell her once everything’s over. The two then discuss Komachi’s birthday celebration and conclude that it’s better to do it with family considering the situation surrounding their friends.

Back at school, Hachiman looks over to Yui as she interacts with her friends. Not willing to go over to the large group, Hachiman messages Yui instead and asks her if she’s free. Yui scolds him for being weird but agrees to leave with him anyway. The two of them talk about the prom preparations and Yui brings up her meeting with Yukino. Hachiman asks that they take a detour, and the two stop at a nearby park.

At the park, Hachiman tells Yui that he lost the bet. Going off what Yukino said, he asks Yui what her wish is so that he can try to grant it. Yui lists a bunch of Hachiman’s character quirks she wants him to improve on before admitting that she’s greedy and that she can’t decide on one thing. She then tells Hachiman that she wants to help grant his wish as well, telling him that he needs to think about what that is exactly.

The next day, Yui and Hachiman run into Iroha and Yukino. As Yui cheerfully greets her, they inquire about the prom’s progress. Yukino gives them a longwinded, indirect speech about logistics before Iroha indirectly tells then that they’re low on manpower. Despite this, Yukino still refuses Hachiman’s help. Iroha suggests that Hachiman’s help is always welcome before running off with Yukino. As the two walk off, Yui asks Hachiman to come over to her house on the upcoming Saturday.

Yui and Hachiman meet that Saturday to discuss what sort of sweets they’re going to make for Komachi’s birthday. They decide on cookies, but Yui’s mom shows up and insists that they make fruit tarts instead. The three of them go shopping for ingredients, while Yui’s mom teases both Hachiman and Yui.

Back at the apartment, the three taste test the tarts and try out various combinations before settling on the right one. Yui’s mother then continues to tease the two by suggesting they include the “secret ingredient.” Yui’s face turns red when she finds out what it is while an embarrassed Hachiman is left guessing. With the tarts done, Yui walks Hachiman out and he gives her an early White Day gift -- regretting that the day will come when he can’t continue granting each of her wishes one by one.

Sometime after, the graduation ceremony is held with Iroha giving her farewell speech to the seniors. Meguri then gives her speech, making Hachiman uncharacteristically emotional. Meguri closes on her cultural speech, rallying the students one more time. After the ceremony, Hachiman and Yui personally say goodbye to Meguri in the student council room. Hachiman once again gets emotional, which leads to Iroha teasing him. Iroha ends things off by giving Hachiman an undisclosed task to complete, much to his dismay.
