Goku Returns to the Fight in latest Dragon Ball Super Manga Preview

Goku takes on Gas in the newest preview for Dragon Ball Super's next chapter.

The official Dragon Ball website has revealed a few rough panels from Chapter 82 of the sequel series, which picks up immediately following the shocking events of Chapter 81. With Granolah critically injured following a cowardly sneak attack from the leader of the Heeters, Goku is forced to rejoin the fight against Gas, the weapon-generating villain who was recently powered up by a wish granted by the Dragon Balls. The preview panels show the battle taking place across a variety of locations, with Goku apparently using his Instant Transmission ability to teleport across great distances and keep Gas off balance. The new chapter will be officially released in English through Manga Plus on March 19.

The current Granolah the Survivor saga has been confirmed to be nearing its end, though the manga's producers teased earlier this year that it'll have a few more twists and turns to go through before it's completed. The story arc started in 2020 and introduced several new characters to the series, including the titular Granolah, an assassin who blames the Saiyans for the death of his species and his family, as well as the Heeters, a new team of villains who once worked for Frieza. The arc also featured the debut of a Vegeta's latest and most powerful transformation, Ultra Ego, which was designed to be the dark counterpart to Goku's Ultra Instinct form.

Dragon Ball fans have plenty to get hyped up about lately, as in addition to the upcoming conclusion of the manga's current story arc, the franchise's latest movie, Dragon Ball Super, is set to debut in Japan in less than a month, with a North American release to follow later this summer. The movie sees the return of the Red Ribbon Army, who have created a new pair of deadly androids, Gamma 1 and 2. The film will concentrate on the characters of Gohan and Piccolo, who will debut a new form in the movie.

Additionally, Dragon Ball series producer Akio Iyoku teased earlier this year that there may be more to look forward to in 2022 beyond the new movie. While Iyoku did not give any specific details, fans are hoping for the return of the Dragon Ball Super anime series. The original Super anime concluded its broadcast run in 2018, and the manga has since published a wealth of material that has yet to be adapted into animation.

Dragon Ball Super is written by series creator Akira Toriyama and features art by his protege, Toyotarou. It is published by VIZ Media in English, which releases new chapters every month through its Manga Plus website.
